Faith in Education

Our Parish School

is Coming!

We have a name: The Franciscan School

The name denotes our vision for the school as an integral part of our Franciscan Parish. It has been chosen to express our commitment to the ideals of St. Francis of Assisi that live within our Catholic community of faith.

We have property: School land has been acquired

Eleven acres have been purchased to the west of our current campus, between Leesville Road and our gravel parking lot. A conceptual Site Master Plan including this new land is on display in the Stewardship Center.

We have financing: The Diocese of Raleigh has committed a mortgage loan

Approval for a loan has been received from the Diocese of Raleigh that will enable us to build a state of the art school and to renovate Clare Hall, including an enlarged gymnasium/social hall. These new and renovated buildings will provide improved facilities for both school and current parish ministries and activities. Our parking lots and roadways will also be expanded and improved.

Now, we need your help:

Letters of Intent: Parents planning to enroll children in our school need to submit a Letter of Intent at this time. A form is enclosed. These letters are essential to enabling our planning process to go forward, and helping to establish enrollment priorities.

Capital Campaign: Each parishioner will soon be asked to participate in making this dream become a reality. Together we will raise $3 Million in pledges over the next five months.

Letter of Intent: Help us plan for our new school

It's with great joy and excitement that I share with you the status report presented in this newsletter. The dream of a parochial school here at St. Francis is becoming a reality. I truly believe our parish is becoming stronger and even more vital as the support for this venture grows!

Our effort to create a unique parochial school environment here at St. Francis is being guided by the Mission Statement shown on the following page. I'm sure you will agree with the Pastoral Council that this statement is an outgrowth of our Parish Mission Statement. Our Parish Mission Statement has helped us over the years to form a community of faith that is distinctive. This community has made a difference in the lives of so many of us. The Franciscan School will do the same for many of our children.

Now we need your help. Specifically, we need to know how many grade levels to make ready for August of 2000. Do you plan on enrolling your children in The Franciscan School? Please complete the enclosed Letter of Intent to help us in our planning.

We expect tuition in the fall of 2000 to be $4000. We also expect tuition assistance to be available for parishioners who are in need.

We ask that each family include a $200 deposit as they submit their Letter of Intent. Doing so does not guarantee placement in the school. However, the timeliness of your responses along with other placement criteria will be used in selecting our school's first student community. All responses postmarked by August 15th will receive equal date priority. The $200 will be refundable in the event your child is not placed in these first classes.

Please note, at the current time there are over 1500 school aged children in our parish. The Franciscan School will open with no more than 500 placements available.

Should you need further information or have additional questions, please call one of the members of our School Board listed below or Joan Port at the parish office, 847-8205 extension 249.

Thank you and let us continue to pray the guidance of God's Spirit as we move forward.

The Franciscan School Mission Statement

Reflecting the unique charism of our patron, Saint Francis of Assisi, The Franciscan School is dedicated to an education that fosters a Christ centered way of living and celebrates the building of the Kingdom of God on earth.

We believe that community is at the heart of Franciscan education and strive to create a prayerful environment alive with Catholic traditions and Christian values where self-discipline, sensitivity, respect and personal responsibility are taught and practiced.

We believe that every child has the potential to achieve something wonderful and that our family centered faith formation encourages our community to share their time, talent, and treasure and recognize the value and significance of their gifts in God's plan for the world.

We believe teaching is a ministry and our faculty and staff reflect this attitude. Our educators share their diverse talents, encourage growth, and recognize that relationships with students and families go far beyond the role of formal education.

We provide an academic curriculum that reflects excellence in all its parts, allows for creative expression, and prepares our children to live in the technological world.

We instill a love of learning, a desire to look for truth with a humble spirit, and a willingness to consider reality from many perspectives while evaluating it with a sense of justice and proportion.

We value diversity and purposefully engage in activities that promote an understanding and an appreciation of all people.

We are inspired to awaken and expand the social conscience of our youth so they can

fully appreciate what it means to be human and to actively participate in the betterment of the human condition.

We foster and celebrate partnership and collaboration among families, teachers, the local community and the global world.

We encourage our students, families

and teachers to model the goodness of

St. Francis:

… to give generously.

… to forgive even before the asking.

… to live as responsible stewards of

the church, our society, the

earth and its resources.

We send forth children knowledgeable of self, rooted in faith, educated in mind, compassionate in heart, and deeply responsive in service to others, especially the poor and the oppressed of our world.
