FRIAR'S MIND

Certain days seem to fill up fast; there are more things to do than hours to do them. Next Sunday, January 18, is one of those. You are already aware that a Pro-Life Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica that afternoon. In the evening that same day the beginning of the Church Unity Octave will be observed at the cathedral.

Bishop Braxton has written a letter to all the priests of the archdiocese, inviting us to join him in celebrating Mass at the College Church (St. Francis Xavier, Lindell and Grand). This will be that same Sunday, January 18. The Mass will begin at 1:30 in the afternoon.

This Mass honors the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, and is sponsored by the Commission on Human Rights. Bishop Braxton has asked priests to invite any parishioner who is interested in this message of Dr. King to join the congregation at the College Church. Everyone is welcome. It is an opportunity to recommit oneself to the important work of fostering understanding between the races and promoting real equality and justice for all.

Maybe your schedule next Sunday will allow you to participate in one of these.

ARCHDIOCESAN STRATEGIC PLANNING

The Archdiocese of St. Louis is beginning a process of strategic planning for parishes. The five areas for each parish to review and renew are: Sacraments, Prayer, Catholic Education, the Poor and Stewardship. The initial meeting for all parishes will be on Wednesday, January 28, at America's Center in downtown St. Louis. Our parish will be forming a committee to consider these plans and their significance in our parish. Anyone who is interested in being part of this process please contact Fr. Earl, Fr. Gilmary, or any member of the parish council.
