IMMACULATE CONCEPTION BULLETIN
January 18, 1998
FRIAR'S MIND
To prepare properly for a fitting religious celebration of
the Millennium, 2000 A.D., the Archdiocese is offering a
three year program from 1997 through 1999. This second
year, 1998, focuses on the Holy Spirit, the sacrament of
Confirmation and the theological virtue of Hope.
The recommended activity during this year is a prayerful
reading of the Acts of the Apostles. Acts is sometimes
called "the Gospel of the Holy Spirit" because it
illustrates the work of the Holy Spirit in the early church.
A careful reading of Acts will enrich your understanding of
Scripture and the work of the early church as a model of
Christian hope. It can also deepen your commitment to your
Confirmation which completed your Baptism, strengthening you
as a true witness of Christ.
To facilitate your personal program of reading the Acts
of the Apostles during this coming year, copies are
available in the back of church. These attractive booklets
have the full text of the Acts along with the background
footnotes. One booklet per family, please. Prayer cards
for the Millennium are also available.
How many times have you said, "Some day I am going to
read the Bible?" Maybe today is the day! Here is a
wonderful and convenient opportunity. Take a copy of Acts
home with you and make a New Year's resolution to read from
it each day. It will help you prepare for the celebration
of the great anniversary of our faith, the beginning of the
third millennium of Christianity, 2000 A.D.
