FRIARS' MIND

"Thanks, Mom."

How many times did we say that? How many times should we have said it? To the first question most of us have to answer, "Seldom." And to the second we all can say, "Beyond number."

There are the obvious things to be thankful for: lunch after school, cookies on Saturday, a Birthday gift we really wanted--How did she always know?--, help with homework, willingness to listen to our rambling stories.

But there were many things that Mom did that were not so pleasant for her, but had to be done. Because they had to be done so over and over, they made Mom's job tiresome. I'm sure she often wondered if we would ever learn. Now we realize how important these things were as we grew up.

Making us say Please and Thank You.

Insisting on table manners.

Never letting us get away with "I hate (so-and-so)."

Shining our school shoes.

Keeping the house clean and our clothes fresh.

Explaining so many confusing things about life.

Teaching us to apologize to the neighbors.

Requiring us to be home at a certain time.

Making us go to church.

"You were right, Mom, and thanks."

Frs. Earl & Gilmary

JULY 20TH - PARISH PICNIC DAY

It will soon be upon us. We are in need of workers to help with the Nevada Pull Tabs, Bingo, Silent Auction, Fish Pond, Cork Gun and Spider jump. We could use the talents of an auctioneer for an hour that day. We need contacts in the soda industry, gently used children's books and white elephant/craft items for some of our booths. Items can be brought to the Friary or call 349-1432 for pick-up. Our last picnic meeting will be June 3rd, 7 pm PC down. Everyone please attend and we will finalize our plans. Please call and volunteer your talents for that day - we really do have lots of fun - Sue Steidle, 349-1432.
