IMMACULATE CONCEPTION BULLETIN
May 25, 1997
FRIARS' MIND
Next Sunday is Corpus Christi Sunday. In former
years, that was always quite a day. Youngsters today would
be surprised to see a procession of praying and singing
people, with the First Communion children all dressed up,
lots of servers with burning candles, and the priest
carrying the Eucharist, all going from house to house in a
neighborhood. Remember the altars that were set up on
several porches, where Benediction was held.
It made a real impression on us and helped us focus on
the Holy Eucharist as the center of our public worship.
We like to say our faith is as strong as ever. Only the
way we express it has changed. But having given up some of
those old practices--or being forced by circumstances to
give them up, we may have lost something that has hurt us.
Is our faith really as strong as it used to be?
One good substitute in our parish for by-gone devotion is
the monthly Day of Adoration. It is better than an annual
procession. This is regular and real prayer of adoration.
More people should volunteer to take their hour of prayer
on the first Friday, or at least make a visit to church some
time that day to join those in adoration. Our faith in the
Holy Eucharist will be strengthened, people's lives will be
made holier, and prayers for the whole world will be offered
to God.
If we are close to the Eucharist, God is close to us.
Frs. Earl & Gilmary
There will be 24 hour Adoration of the Eucharist on the
First Friday of June from 8:00 am Friday until 7:00 am,
Saturday. Since the First Friday of July falls on the
holiday weekend of July 4, adoration will NOT be scheduled
then in the interest of family time together.
JULY 20TH - PARISH PICNIC DAY
We are in need of workers to help with the Nevada Pull Tabs,
Bingo, Silent Auction, Fish Pond, Cork Gun and Spider jump.
We also need an auctioneer, contacts in the soda industry,
gently used children's books and white elephant/craft items.
Bring items to the Friary or call 349-1432 for pick-up. Our
final picnic meeting will be June 3rd, 7 pm PC down.
Call and volunteer your talents for that day - we really do
have lots of fun - Sue Steidle, 349-1432.
A NEW PARISH CENTER IS COMING
The building committee met with the architects this past
Tuesday to fine-tune the plans for the new parish center.
The surveying and test drilling are completed and we have
begun work on the site plan. We will meet again on July 8
to continue this planning and set a tentative timetable.
Thanks to your generous support this project is making
steady progress. In fact, we are ahead of schedule!
