IMMACULATE CONCEPTION BULLETIN
June 22, 1997
FRIARS' MIND
Perhaps this is a good time to say something about the
young people of our parish who serve at Mass. They are
seldom acknowledged, although they are doing their job at
most of our liturgical celebrations. We take them for
granted. And that is fine with them. They are contributing
to public worship for the glory of God and the good of his
people. This is an honor and privilege, and they don't ask
anything more.
But the parish does appreciate their service. People
watch them carefully, and if they do an especially good job,
comments are made. If they do a bad job, comments are also
made.
We now have seventy-six veteran servers and seventeen
rookies. The rookies are serving the 8:00 a.m. weekday
Masses during the summer. They learn by doing, which means
they often learn from mistakes. That's life. Most of these
are fourth graders at Holy Child School or P. S. R. A few
of them are older. We welcome them.
At this time of year, several older servers will be
leaving because of other commitments. So we thank them for
their years of service. They will be missed.
The parents of all servers deserve our gratitude for
the sacrifices they make to get their youngsters here and
for the wonderful encouragement they give their sons and
daughters to serve.
Letters were sent in May to the families of servers
about the yearly Servers Picnic. This year the picnic will
be on Thursday, July 10, at Kenrick Seminary. We want to
remind the servers who are going to notify us (if they have
not done so already) so we have a count. And if any parents
can be chaperons, we would appreciate that.
The picnic is our way of saying thanks to the boys
and girls who serve.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL COLLECTION
Next Sunday, June 29th is the 5th Sunday of the month and
the loose collection is for St. Vincent De Paul Society to
help the needy in our area. We appreciate anything you can
contribute in this way, or through the envelopes in the
pews. Your donations have made it possible to help with
food, medicines and utilities, and other urgent requests.
Folks who are down on their luck have all sorts of needs -
no two are alike - and we TRY to help them all. Sometimes
we cannot help, but we can pray. We ask you to pray for all
who call on us for help. Monthly meeting will be held at
Jeanette Kouba's home this Wednesday, June 25th.
