FRIARS' MIND
THREE REASONS FOR A PARISH PICNIC
In this age of Disney World, fast-food restaurants, and
especially air-conditioning, some have asked why we continue
to have our annual summer parish picnic. So I offer three
reasons for your reflection.
Parish Community
The first reason for holding a parish picnic is to enrich
the parish as a community. Working together for a common
cause awakens us to our common faith. It opens our eyes to
the talents and generosity of other parishioners. The
parish picnic is a community builder for the most important
of all communities, our community of faith.
Parish Visibility
The parish is part of a wider church and a wider society.
Few things bring us into the public eye as our traditional
parish picnic. The fact that so many people ask about our
picnic testifies to the impact it has on the community at
large.
Parish Stewardship
The picnic is part of the parish budget. This is true in a
fuller sense that it is an opportunity to be faithful
stewards of our time, talent and treasure and to be inspired
by such stewardship on the part of other parishioners.
The picnic is next Sunday. Come and be part of both the
labor and the celebration. In doing so you will enrich the
community, the parish and yourself.

LECTORS NEEDED
Have you ever thought of becoming a Lector or Eucharistic
Minister? IF YOU HAVE, LET US KNOW. There is a need
for more lectors at the 7 a.m. and ll:30 a.m. Sunday Masses.
Also Eucharistic Ministers are needed for the 11:30 a.m.
Mass. You will be trained and will probably lector only one
Sunday a month. "You have been chosen." Call Sheila White
942-3132 for further information.
NEW PARISH CENTER
I. C. TOMORROW MILESTONE
If you have been following the weekly report on pledge
payments for "IC Tomorrow," you will notice that this week
we pass a milestone. We have reached the half-million
dollar mark! We are ahead of our campaign schedule,
thanks to the generosity of so many who have been more than
faithful to their pledges. Today's half-million marker is a
good time to renew your personal commitment to a new parish
center.
