FRIAR'S MIND

This week we begin the active phase of the Archdiocesan Endowment campaign, Returning God's Gifts, Sharing Our Hope. A few weeks ago the video was shown at all the Masses to explain the endowment. This week we are soliciting volunteers to help canvass the parish.

We have already assembled a leadership team, and ten areas captains. We now need your help. The area captains have generously volunteered to serve. They deserve your support. Sign up cards are in the pews. Your card can be returned in the collection, to the parish office, or directly to one of the area captains listed below. If you wish to help a particular captain, please indicate that on your card.

This coming Thursday, September 11, there will be a meeting at 7:00 pm in the parish center (down) for all area captains and all volunteers. This will be an information and training session for canvassing the parish for the endowment campaign. Rosemary Smith, the campaign representative for our deanery, will present the process of the campaign and answer your questions.

Our Area Captains are: Paul Backer (296-0907), Jim Blume (296-2160), T. Heisserer (464-5794), Rich Layton (296-6679), Joe McEnaney (464-3171), John Perrone (296-3833), Steve Ott (948-2503), Duke Redd (296-0148), Bob Venker (282-0630), Greg Wise (296-1456).

Some one remarked that this campaign could be a heavy load for our parish. Not if everyone does his or her fair share. The leadership team and the area captains have generously offered their services. They now need your help. The more who help, the lighter the load for everyone. If you help, you will know that you did your part for our parish and the archdiocese.

RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS

SHARING OUR HOPE

An endowment of $10,000,000 will provide for the retirement of Archdiocesan priests. Because it is estimated that these costs will increase dramatically in the near future and then level off, the principal of this fund, unlike the other campaign funds, may be used along with the earned interest to help cover retirement costs. This will prevent parish assessments for priests retirement from increasing substantially.

PRO-LIFE SEPTEMBER MOM

She is 19 years old and the baby's father is 20. They are not married but definitely decided to keep and love their baby. Just 3-4 weeks before she was due, the baby died. They are now faced with death instead. Please pray for them that they grieve and heal by the grace of God.

RESEARCH INDICATES that many people who request physician-assisted suicide withdraw that request if their depression and pain are treated...legal physician-assisted suicide could make it more difficult for the State to protect depressed, mentally-ill persons, and those suffering from untreated pain, from their suicidal impulses.
