FRIAR'S MIND
OCTOBER 1, DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
The archdiocese has designated one day for each parish as a
Day of Prayer for Vocations. This coming
Wednesday, October 1, is the day for our parish.
A large cross will be set up in church all day Wednesday.
You may stop in any time. Special prayer booklets will be
provided. There will be services at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. for
the children of Holy Child School. At 7:00 p.m. Father
John will celebrate Mass in honor of the Holy Cross and
speak on fostering vocations.
The need for vocations in the Church is urgent, even
critical. Priests, Sisters, Deacons and religious Brothers
are spread too thin for the work that needs to be done.
A life of dedicated religious service does not seem to
have much attraction for young people. It lacks the
temporal rewards and glamour of other jobs. Those who want
only the material goods of life will not choose a religious
life. But there is excitement, meaningful work, interesting
surprises, and deep personal satisfaction in a life lived
for the spiritual good of others.
A vocation comes only from God: "No one takes this upon
himself, but is called by God." (Hebrews 5:4) So we
need to pray that God will call many young people, here and
throughout the world, and give them the grace to be generous
and strong. We urge you to come to evening Mass this
Wednesday evening, October 1, at 7:00.

SHARING OUR HOPE
How will the Archdiocesan Campaign help our parish?
All the programs funded by this endowment assist
parishes either directly or indirectly: Catholic Education,
clergy retirement, parish viability, St. Louis Cathedral.
They do so by direct grants or by reducing the assessments
of the parishes to sponsor these works of the church.
But what if I move to another parish?
The benefit of this endowment is even more evident in
this situation. The endowment will help each and every
parish in the archdiocese. Regardless of which parish you,
your family, your grandchildren may some day belong to all
will receive the benefits of the endowment for generations
to come. This is a chance to help everyone, for ever!
