IMMACULATE CONCEPTION BULLETIN
November 9, 1997
FRIAR'S MIND
Next Sunday, 16 November, the people who are
interested in becoming Catholic will formally begin their
Catechumenate. Actually, they have already been studying
the Faith for sometime. Since late September there have
been weekly meetings to learn about Catholic teachings and
practices, to ask questions, and to pray together.
This year we have an unusually large number of
catechumens, sixteen, ranging in age from the teens to the
fifties plus. There are also seven Catholics who are
renewing their Faith by studying and praying with the
candidates.
We are supposed to have a liturgical rite at Mass to
receive them formally as catechumens of our parish. This
gives them an opportunity to be seen by the parish and to be
welcomed. Each of them will then be given a copy of the New
Testament, a gift from the parish. This is to be their
meditation and the very heart of their instructions.
We want to welcome these men and women who are seeking
to have a closer relationship with God and to live as
Christians among us. Let's pray for them often throughout
this year. And when we see them at Mass, let's make them
feel welcome.

Today is the final wrap-up of the Archdiocesan
Endowment Campaign. To complete the computer records
we need your help. We ask every household to fill out
one of the forms in your pew. There are three options:
1) I pledge ______________ per month for three years.
2) I have already made a pledge.
3) I cannot now make a pledge.
Thank you for your cooperation and your support
of the Archdiocesan Endowment Campaign.
RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS
SHARING OUR HOPE
How is this campaign doing in the archdiocese?
To date the archdiocese has received pledges for $47
million, 85% of the $55 million goal. The average gift is
$1,176. Most parishes have already surpassed their goal.
The present parish average is 94% of its goal.
How can our fellow Catholics be so generous?
The pledge is over three years so that what may seem
like a large gift is really quite moderate over time. For
example a gift of a thousand dollars is less than a dollar a
day. A gift of $500 is less than 50 cents a day, less than
a daily cup of coffee or soft drink. All for an endowment
which will do good work forever.

HELP FOR THE NEEDY - ST. VINCENT de PAUL
Soon it will be the busiest time of the year for most of us;
let us not forget the hungry and needy. November 30, the
5th Sunday of the month, the loose collection is given to us
for this purpose, and we ask you to be generous. Thus far,
in 1997, we have expended $17,300. A lot of this was for
rent, repair of appliances, repair to homes, medical,
dental, pharmacy and others. Over 722 persons were helped,
using 625 volunteer hours. In October, we had to deny help
to several callers because of lack of funds.
We sincerely thank you who have donated through the
envelopes and through the 5th Sunday collections. We hope
you will continue to make it possible for us to work in this
ministry. God bless you!
