Children’s Catechumenate

This program works with children who have had no formal religious education.  Children, who are in the elementary grades, but who have not received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation or Holy Communion, would participate in this program.  Classes are held every Sunday after Mass from September through Pentecost.

Parishioners who would like to volunteer as a catechist are always welcome.  A catechist must actively practice their faith and be willing to give a couple of hours every Sunday.  The benefits are working with children and parents who are truly happy to be there.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration is held the first Friday of each month from 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, concluding with Morning Prayer and Benediction.  We ask parishioners to commit to one hour of Eucharistic Adoration, spending the time in prayer, reading spiritual books, praying the rosary or just letting our Lord speak to you.  We have many faithful adorers, men and women, but we desperately need more, especially during the late night/ early morning hours.  Jesus asks us - “Can you not spend one hour with me?”

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest with distributing Holy Communion at all Masses on Sunday and weekdays.  Parishioners are invited to join this ministry that Pope Paul VI called “an important office of immense love”.

Ministers of the Eucharist should be:  sincere Christians, have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, and foster their own devotion to the Eucharist.  People interested in becoming ministers are required to attend a half-hour training session to become familiar with the sacristy and sanctuary.  Generally, you will minister one Sunday a month.

Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout Program has four fundamental goals.  These serve as the foundation for all activities.  Each girl shall:

            1.  Develop to her full individual potential.

            2.  Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect.

            3.  Develop values to guide her actions and to provide the foundation for sound decision-making.

            4.  Contribute to society through the use of her abilities and leadership skills, working in cooperation with others.

Girl Scout Leaders decide how often, when and where their troop will meet.  Girls between the ages of five and seventeen are eligible to join.  Leaders can be women or men over the age of eighteen.  A girl does not need to belong to a troop to be a Girl Scout.  She can register individually and participate in special events when she has time.

Home Visit Eucharistic Ministry

This is a shared ministry of laity and clergy who reach out to fellow parishioners who are unable to attend Sunday Liturgy.  It is a wonderful way to serve the church in the expression of God’s love and care.  Our Home Visit Eucharistic ministers bring Holy Communion to those parishioners who are confined to their home.  The visit also extends the concern of the parish and helps to lessen the isolation and loneliness often felt by the recipient.

If you are aware of anyone who is homebound and wishes to receive pastoral care from the parish, please contact Deacon Joe Streckfuss, Home Visit Coordinator.

Lectors/Commentators

Our lectors and commentators are involved in an important ministry at Immaculate Conception.  The lectors vocalize the readings and the commentators say the petitions and read any special letters.  One person could do both positions, but we try to use a two person team.  Parishioners are assigned by week (1st, 2nd, 3rd Sunday, etc.) and by Mass time.

Initial training is provided and periodically Lector Workshops are scheduled.  It’s the obligation of a lector to make every effort to attend these workshops.  Lector workbooks are available to help them prepare for the delivery of God’s Word with respect, dignity and meaning.  Lectors should have a good strong voice and be able to project God’s Word meaningfully.

Prayers of the Faithful

Is God calling you in some way to help the Immaculate Conception Parish, but you just don’t know how?  Did you know that lay people in the Parish write our Prayers of the Faithful (petitions) each week?  It is a very loving and Spirit filled way to answer God’s call.  There are guidebooks and reference material available to assist you in writing these prayers and tying them to the Scripture readings.  This is another way for parishioners to be actively involved in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass each week.  If interested in writing the Prayers of the Faithful, please call the Rectory.
