Mission Talk
This week Fr. Pete Chabot is preaching at our Masses for the Maryknoll Missionaries. Having lived in the mission in Zambia I know how important these visits are for the homefront. Missioning is not one way street. If our Church is going to be one then we need ministers crossing cultural lines so that the beauty and depths one culture can enrich that of another. Cross-cultural experiences help to bring Christ alive. Different people approach religion and life in different ways. By sharing and/or experiencing some of these approaches we can gain a better insight into the majesty and wonder of the Incarnate Jesus. I pray that these "missionary weekends" increase your curiosity about our Church and that some of the attitudes, devotions and customs of others might enhance your faith and your humility before God. Our way of worship and practice is not the only way. May your hearts be open to the wonder and beauty of our global Church.

Hablando de las Misiones
Esta semana el padre Pete Chabot estará visitándonos y predicando en nuestras misas sobre los Misioneros de Maryknoll. Habiendo vivido en la misión de Zanmbia yo se lo importante que son estas vistas en el frente local . Hacer misiones no es un camino en una sola dirección. Si nuestra Iglesia va a ser tina verdadera Iglesia. entonces necesitamos ministros que puedan cruzar la línea cultura¡ para que la belleza y la profundidad de una cultura se enriquescan una a la otra. Experiencias interculturales ayudan a presentar a Cristo vivo. La gente tiende a abordar la religión y la vida de maneras diferentes. Al compartir o experimenta éstas diferencias podemos obtener una mejor visión de la majestad y Encarnación de Jesús. Yo pido a Dios para que este fin de semana de las misiones aumenten su curiosidad acerca de nuestra Iglesia y que las otras actitudes, devociones y costumbres aumenten nuestra fe y humildad ante Dios. Nuestra forma de adoración y prácticas religiosas no son la única forma de adorar. Que nuestros corazones estén abiertos a las maravillas y bellezas de nuestra Iglesia global.
La Biblia en la Vida Diaria
"María se sentó a los pies de¡ Señor a oír su palabra"
(Lucas 10. 38-42)
Un hombre va de visita a la casa de dos hermanas. amigas suyas. Mientras la mayor se queda preparando la comida. su hermanita se sienta con su amigo para escucharlo y charlar. Un evento común y corriente. ¿verdad? Pero en el mundo de Jesús esta escena con sus amigas Marta y María es algo revolucionaria. Algo que tanto ofendía a la "gente decente" de su sociedad, que es una de las cosas que llevó a tramitar su crucifixión.
En aquel entonces los líderes religiosos jamás instruían a las mujeres. Limitaban su Discipulado a los hombres. Pero en varias ocasiones Jesús incluía a las mujeres en su predicación. Una de sus estudiantes - la mujer samaritana, la de varios esposos - después de oír sus palabras de vida se fue entusiasmada a proclamarlas a la gente de su pueblo. Otra discípula, María Magdalena, fue la persona que Jesús eligió para anunciar su resurrección a los doce apóstoles - ¡un honor singular en una cultura que no admitía el testimonio de las mujeres!
Por desgracia, nuestro mundo sigue discriminando contra la mujer en la sociedad y en el hogar. En un país que se llama cristiano, que se alarde de seguir los paso del Carpintero de Nazareth, es inctreible que todavía exista la violencia doméstica. Si vamos a considerarnos discípulos del Señor, comencemos en la fábrica, la oficina y el hogar, dandole a la mujer el mismo respeto que rendimos al hombre.
