A steering committee began discussing how a large parish can help its people stay healthily connected to the Church and to each other as fellow Catholics. On maps the parish has been divided into twenty-six neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has a coordinating household and one or more assistant coordinating households. Leadership training has taken place. The parish office serves as the center of communications. Each neighborhood is asked to reach out to families in the name of St. Peter Parish in these ways: welcoming newcomers, provide any in need with transportation to church, take Holy Communion to its shut-ins, assist families and individuals in times of crisis or sorrow. It is hoped that each neighborhood will eventually become the setting of smaller groups for scripture study, faith discussion, prayer, or meeting a community need. Some neighborhoods will need to divide further; leadership will need to adjust as new circumstances develop. It is an experiment Catholic community development.
