The Franciscan Missionary of the Divine Child planted the seed
of a Christian education in 1949 when two sisters prepared a group
of children for the reception of First Holy Communion. In 1950,
four sisters under the leadership of Sister Mary Damian opened the
doors of Immaculate Heart of Mary to Catholic Education.
With the growth in registration, it was necessary for additional
classrooms and an increase in faculty personnel, totaling twelve
teachers by 1955. The following year Mother Margaret Mary, Superior
General of the sisters, succeeded Sister Mary Damian as Principal
of a growing school in an expanding community. Returning to Immaculate
Heart of Mary in 1958, Sister Mary Damian labored again to produce
more capable citizens for a better community and a better world.
Under the guidance of Sister Mary Patricia, the school continued
to be a fine representative of Catholic education. In 1965, Sister
Mary Thomas was appointed principal.
The Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Divine Child
have considered it a joy and privilege to staff Immaculate Heart of
Mary school over all the years.
