Dear Parents,                                                                                       May 17, 2002

TEACHER FEATURE

My name is Pam Warner and I am the Kindergarten aide.  I started my career with children with the Special School District.  I came to St. Mary Magdalen School when my daughter started Kindergarten.  She is now a senior at St. John the Baptist High School.  I also have a son who is an officer with the St. Louis City Police Department.  My husband is an attorney.  I earned my teaching certificate from Southeast Missouri State University.

I have enjoyed working with the children throughout the years, and continue to be challenged and rewarded with each new class.  I really enjoy being on the “ground floor” of a child’s school career.  It’s very gratifying to see the proud faces of the children at the end of the year when they “graduate” to first grade!  I feel very privileged to be a part of that.  I am proud to be associated with the great staff of St. Mary Magdalen School.

Information Overload!

The last 2 Friday Folders of the school year would be better named Information Overload.  Get ready!  Everything is important, no skimming today.

ü      Field Day is next Friday.  We dismiss from the park behind Schnucks at 1:15.  Be sure to make arrangements to pick up your children from the park. THERE IS NO LATCHKEY ON FRIDAY, MAY 24, DUE TO PARISH PICNIC.

ü      Our Parish Picnic committee tells me that they still need some workers.  Have you signed up yet?  If not or if you can spare another hour or 2 please call Sue Roy (963-0053) and she will gladly schedule you.  This is a great opportunity to meet other school families and do your part to help make the Picnic a grand success.

ü      Fr. Bernie’s video of the 2001-2002 school year cannot be ordered after Monday, May 20.  If you have never seen one of these you have really missed something special.  It is truly a must-have item!

ü      The school yearbook, a memory book of faces and events, must also be ordered by Monday, May 20.  Have you ordered yours yet?  These are delivered in August so that we can include events right up to the end of the school year.

ü      Order forms for monogrammed school shirts are in this week’s Friday Folder.  They are not a required part of the school uniform but they certainly finish off the outfit very nicely.  The cost is reasonable and the look is preferable to the plain white polo shirt.

ü      Physicals and their forms MUST come to the office in August.  These are an absolute must for all children going into Kindergarten, 4th and 7th.  Make that appointment now!

ü      Any outstanding bills, will keep Report Cards from being mailed on June 7.  Please make any arrangements ASAP.

Please, please, please

Ø      Included in today’s Friday Folder is a Survey published by our newly formed PR committee.  The PR committee, along with 5 other committees, is the result of the strategic planning that we have been participating in all school year.  Please take the time, and we know your time is valuable but so are your answers, but please take the time to fill out the survey.

Ø      Included also the please-won’t-you-volunteer sign-up sheet.  Please won’t your volunteer?  Take extra care right in the middle where the word “painter” appears. We need some summer painters, there’s lots to do.  If you and all your friends will volunteer to paint this summer we can give this place a much-needed

      face-lift.

Internet Users

We have come of age!  The school has been posting our Friday Newsletters on the Church’s Internet site since last school year; there is a corner that is dedicated to the school. Tony Forsythe, one of our school parents, and Mick Erickson from ApointLink have donated hours upon hours and great expertise to the development of an active St. Mary Magdalen website.

The Menu is as follows:

Home: a great place to see our Mission statement and some student photos

Teachers’ Message Board: this section will be kept current by your

children’s classroom teachers.  They will post anything from

exciting classroom news to long term projects.

Parents and Students: this is where the highlights for the week will be

posted, along with important upcoming events.

Friday Newsletter: this is exactly that, the Friday Newsletter.  However, that

spot on the website will hold a month’s worth of previous newsletters.

Calendar of Events: this is simply the cyber space version of the paper calendar

you received several weeks ago. However, as next school year proceeds

Mrs. Morris will keep the calendar up to date with upcoming events.

Related Links: this section will offer links to good educational web sites.  It

will get much better over the summer!

Technology: this section introduces the company and people responsible for our

                        website, AppointLink.

Contact Us: this gives conventional addresses, phone numbers and links to our

 school e-mail.

We have been working on this for months.  I was astounded by what a difficult and time-consuming task it turned out to be, however, with the priceless help of Tony Forsythe and Mick Erickson our website is up and running.  Please be patient with us as we work out the glitches over the next few weeks.

Over the summer we will use the website to keep parents and students updated as we prepare for the upcoming school year.  Next school year the website will be a vital means of communication.

I hope you will frequent our website and perhaps even send a neighbor or work associate to visit us on site.
