WELLNESS MINISTRY

Something New AT MHC: Wellness Ministry!! What's that? Wellness Ministry is a project designed by one of our LPMP Students. ( Lay Pastoral Ministry Program Students In order to be certified in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's Pastoral Ministry Program a student has to design, implement, and evaluate a project. We are pleased to have Pat Scanlon, a parishioner and a professional nurse, as one of our LPMP Students. Pat has researched and designed a Wellness Ministry Project to share with us. This project is modeled after similar Wellness Ministry Programs offered in some of our larger Catholic Parishes. Locally, Pat will have the cooperation of hospitals and other resourceful agencies to assist her and "us". It is Pat's intention to offer blood pressure checks, other health screening; health and wellness information including Medicare and Medicaid guidelines; and referral to sources of help. All of the services will be confidential.
Pat will be in St. Francis Hall every Tuesday morning beginning in February from 9:30 AM to 12:00 Noon. Please feel free to stop and visit her at that time. You can also contact her via the Pastoral Minister's office at 879-8803.

WALK FOR LIFE--SPRINGFIELD--JANUARY 25TH

The Silver Anniversary of the legalization of Abortion--"Silver: the cost of a life"...If this did not happen do you think we would have 1.5 million abortions a year in the United States. A country that states in the Declaration of Independence the first right is the Right to Life. If every abortion only cost $350.00 (a lot of them are much more) the annual income for abortionists would be a minimum of $525,000,000.00 per year. The people that do these, do not do it for the benefit of the pregnant person but for the benefit of their own wallets. Abortion is a very, very, very, profitable business. Organizations that really care about life are those such as Right to Life which offer free services, where all workers are volunteers and no-one receives any monies for helping those who are surprised with a pregnancy. This year our march in Springfield will be held today, January 25th. It will start at Fellowship Christian Church, 424 S. Fountain Ave., 2:00 PM and should be over about 4:00 PM. We will have the Grand Avenue Church of God Choir. We invite all to join us and pray for the end of these atrocities that are legal in our country for all nine months of the pregnancy. If you can't come, please during these two hours, pray for this to end.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

1) Nehemiah 8, 2-4. 5-6. 8-10
2) 1 Corinthians 12, 12-30
3) Luke 1, 1-4; 4, 14-21
When Ezra the priest read the Torah aloud to the people who had missed hearing and studying it during the exile they were saddened and frightened by how far as a nation they had wandered from God's path. But Ezra assured them, "Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength!"(1) Jesus rejoiced that he had come "to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind and release to prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord."(3) Each of us must rejoice to be a part of the living Body of Christ which is the Church.(2) Each of us must rejoice in the gifts that are ours to give.

Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Jeremiah 1, 4-5. 17-19; 2)1 Corinthians 12, 31-13,13; 3)Luke 4, 21-30.

LEARN THE NEW CATECHISM

Trivia Question:

What gift sustains our life of virtue?

Do you really know all you want to know about the teachings of the Catholic Church? A small group of parishioners gather on the 1st and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM in St. Francis Hall to explore various aspects of church teaching. We use The Catechism of the Catholic Church as our resource. Deacon Max is a regular attendee, so he also serves as a guide. Lessons are independent, so regular attendance is not mandatory, and reading is minimal. We would welcome more questioning people in our group.
For answer to today's trivia question, read paragraphs 1691-1845 in the Catechism and/or join us this Tuesday, January 27th in St. Francis Hall for "Christian Morality is Life in Christ". For information, or to obtain a guide book call Susan Spragale, 878-0125, or Anne Rusen, 879-8803.
