Welcome

WELCOME! Welcome to all who celebrate the Mass with us today. May God's grace and peace fill all of us so that we can serve one another in unity and love. If you have a question, a prayer request or any need, please speak to one of the priests, the parish ushers or with any parishioner.

MHC TID-BIT COLUMN

From Pat Scanlon: Older adults who attend religious services regularly are twice as likely to have strong stable immune systems as those who don't, a new study said. "Those who go to church or synagogue regularly are physically healthier, mentally healthier and they have healthier immune systems," stated Harold Koenig, a Duke University psychiatrist.
Apparently, what is good for your soul is also good for your mind and body!

In Appreciation

To the Parishioners of Mary, Help of Christians: Word have great power to influence, persuade, dissuade, comfort, etc. However, words do not have the power to adequately convey my heartfelt gratitude for the expressions of sorrow, the many gifts of food, and most of all your presence in love during this dreadful time of suffering the death of my beloved brother, William (Willie). Thank you. I will always remember your loving kindness!

BULLETIN BRIEFS

From The Catholic Telegraph and the Office of Communications....
ON THE SILVER SCREEN - When you consider all of the messages movies are sending into the minds and homes of children and adults today, you need a trusted guide to movie viewing. The Catholic Communication Campaign provides one at 1 (800) 311-4CCC. It's a toll-free service with pre- recorded reviews of the week's leading box office attractions, analyzing the films' story lines and their moral values.
ON THE WEB - The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has its own web site, including information about parishes, schools, preparations for the Third Millennium and much more. The site also links to the Vatican web site and many other Catholic web sites. Check it out at http://www.archdiocese- cinti.org

CATHOLIC CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL SAYS THANK YOU

As Catholic Schools Week draws to a close, the Catholic Central family would like to thank everyone who has helped to continue the tradition of excellence and values given to the students of Catholic Central throughout the years. Your generosity and dedication are greatly appreciated.

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

1) Jeremiah 1, 4-5. 17-19
2) 1 Corinthians 12, 31-13,13
3) Luke 4, 21-30
"Set your hearts on the greater gifts."(2) Easily said. Harder to accomplish. Our world cries out for us to set our hearts on the lesser gifts-- the designer labels, the stylish cars, the proper scent or neighborhood or image. We have only one image that should concern us: the image and likeness of God in which we were created. To the extent that our stewardship of the earth, our time and our talents reflect God's image we are successful. To the extent that we fail to show God to the world we are unknown to God.(1) The people of the neighborhood thought they recognized Jesus as the carpenter's son. They failed to recognize him as the Son of the Most High.(3) Who is your Daddy?
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Isaiah 6, 1-2. 3-8; 2)1 Corinthians 15, 1-11; 3)Luke 5, 1-11.

LEARN THE NEW CATECHISM

Trivia Question:

By what four things should our conscience be formed?

Do you really know all you want to know about the teachings of the Catholic Church? A small group of parishioners gather on the 1st and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM in St. Francis Hall to explore various aspects of church teaching. We use The Catechism of the Catholic Church as our resource. Deacon Max is a regular attendee, so he also serves as a guide. Lessons are independent, so regular attendance is not mandatory, and reading is minimal. We would welcome more questioning people in our group.
For answer to today's trivia question, read paragraphs 1846-2051 in the Catechism and/or join us this Tuesday, February 3rd in St. Francis Hall for "What Is a Christian Moral Life?". For information, or to obtain a guide book call Julie Gross, 879-9413, or Anne Rusen, 879-8803.
