Mary, Help of Christians Bulletin
August 10, 1997
NINETEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
1) 1 Kings 19, 4-8
2) Ephesians 4, 30--5, 2
3) John 6, 41-51
Those wonderful, ineffective laments of immaturity: "I didn't ask to be
born you know!" or, "I wish I were dead!" None of us asked for life and
yet all of us have received it. Jesus knew the source of his human life.
He saw heaven as the source of creation and sustenance. Because he was the
Son of God and the Son of Man, Jesus became bread for the world (3). By
our baptism we have become a part of the Body of Christ. Now we must
become bread for one another. Like Elijah we must say to God, "Take my
life!" (1). But we do not ask that our life be forfeit. Instead we ask
that our lives become living water and the bread of life for all God's
people until at last the "Bread that came down from heaven" returns to lead
us home.
Next Sunday the readings will be: 1)Proverbs 9, 1-6; 2)Ephesians 5,
15--20,; 3)John 6, 51-58.

ARE YOU REGISTERED IN THE PARISH?
Please do not take for granted that you are registered in the parish
just because you attend Mass here or that you were registered as a child
with your parents. Are you on our mailing list? Do you receive parish
support envelopes?
If not, it could be quite embarrassing to us, or to you or your family,
when someone wants to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or if you
have been asked to act as a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation which
requires a note from us of your practical Catholicity. If we have no
record of your parish membership, we cannot do this. Please contact the
parish office, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM if you have a question
about registration.
LEAVING THE AREA?...
Parishioners leaving the area are asked to PLEASE notify the secretary at
the rectory office so we can send you your financial statement and to also
keep our records current. Thank you.

He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and
they wish to see you." He said to them in reply, "My mother and my
brothers (and sisters) are those who hear the word of God and act on it."

"Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ." (St. Jerome,

Jesus better?

Religious Education
"No one can come to me unless the Father draw him, and I will raise
him on the last day. It is written in the prophets." John 6:27.
The Sunday morning Religious Education classes have ended for the
summer. Classes will resume in September. Watch the bulletin for detailed
information. We will need volunteers to teach and to serve as teacher's
aids. Perhaps Jesus has chosen you to bear fruit in the ministry of
instructing God's "Little Ones." If so, call the Religious Ed office, 878-7325.
BAPTISM PREPARATION
Parents of unbaptized children, ages 3-6, wishing to have them baptized
should call the Religious Ed office, 878-7325, to arrange for baptismal
preparation for the children.
Help Wanted
We need volunteer teachers/aides for Mary, Help of Christian's Religious
Education Program. Perhaps Christ is asking you to teach and instruct the
Little Children. If so, we will be happy to have you as one of the
disciples who is called to labor here at Mary, Help of Christians. We also
need volunteers to assist in locking the school building after RE classes
on Sundays. It will require only 10-15 minutes of your time on alternate
Sundays. If you are interested, call Gloria L. Leigh, 878-7325.
Baby Sitting
Baby-sitting is provided only on a volunteer basis during the 9:00 AM Mass
only throughout the summer. Volunteer parents will meet in the Bride's Room
of the church.

pickup marked MHC Green parked by St. Francis Hall. While your close,
visit our garden. It's just by the back gate across from the storage
building.

parishioner.

Only you can divide your property as you want it divided. A Bequest to
your Church can be a living memorial to the nobility of your life. A
Bequest to your Church is exempt from estate and inheritance taxes, and
reduces the amount of the estate to be taxed. Your attorney will be happy
to assist you.

Often we get so caught up in the busyness and noise of life that we fail to
notice God present at the center of our everyday experiences.

will offer quiet time to explore and experience centering together.

In Appreciation
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent donation
of $300.00 to the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greene County. As you
know, IHN has recently been struggling financially. It looked as if we
would have to close our doors within 30-45 days. After a lot of prayers,
we turned this financial problem over to God and stated "thy will be done".
Your congregation, along with several individuals and other congregations
heard our plea for assistance and were an answer to our prayers. We are by
no means out of the woods but, we can keep our doors open for awhile
longer. Again, thank you!
Cheryl A. Carter, Network Director
