Mary, Help of Christians Bulletin
August 17, 1997
TWENTIETH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR
1) Proverbs 9, 1-6
2) Ephesians 5, 15-20
3) John 6, 51-58
"Do not act like fools....Make the most of the present opportunity..."
(2) If wisdom came through eating most of us would not be so self-
conscious about our weight. The truest wisdom does come from eating. If
we feed on the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood we have true
life within us (3). If we accept the invitation to the feast Wisdom has
prepared (1) we can have eternal life. Our celebration of the Eucharist is
our celebration of light and life, of Spirit and truth. The greatest
wisdom is the realization that we are not alone--God has given us his Son
as bread for the journey and has united us in the one Body of Christ. As
Jesus has come to fulfill our needs we must be ready to fulfill one
another's needs with our time, talent and treasure--we live, but no longer
for ourselves.
Next Sunday the readings will be: 1)Joshua 24, 1-2. 15-17. 18;
2)Ephesians 5, 21-32; 3)John 6, 60-69.

with your parents. Are you on our mailing list? Do you receive parish
support envelopes?
If not, it could be quite embarrassing to us, or to you or your family,
when someone wants to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or if you
have been asked to act as a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation which
requires a note from us of your practical Catholicity. If we have no
record of your parish membership, we cannot do this. Please contact the
parish office, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM if you have a question
about registration.
LEAVING THE AREA?...

will offer quiet time to explore and experience centering together.
