TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

1) Joshua 24, 1-2. 15-17. 18
2) Ephesians 5, 21-32
3) John 6, 60-69

"If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today whom you will serve...As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" (1). Life (especially eternal life) is made up of choices. With some parts of our lives we are very careful about our choices. Other areas receive less consideration. It would be wonderful if our faith demanded only a single choice, but it does not. Ours must be a constant vigilance. Without conscious choice or serious consideration patterns of sinfulness begin to accumulate. Our time is consumed by too many little problems and it is prayer time which we decide to cut. Unexpected expenses arise and we reduce our support of Church and charity. We find it a challenge to motivate ourselves and so we give in to the urge to "rest" in front of the television rather than use our talents in service and volunteer work. It is not that we wish to abandon Christ--we just seem to drift away. Martin Luther once remarked, "If you must sin, sin boldly." Decide today, but make it an active rather than a passive decision. "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (3).
Next Sunday the readings will be: 1)Deuteronomy 4, 1-2. 6-8; 2)James 1, 17-18. 21-22. 27; 3)Mark 7, 1-8. 14-15. 21-23.

MHC TID-BIT COLUMN

This column is for little information ahd sharing to the larger community. Anyone is welcome to submit notes to be published. Submit to the Rectory before noon on Monday and title it Tid-Bid Column. Articles must be signed.
From your Pastoral Minister....Many people have asked me if Father Joe enjoyed his card shower. I believe he did and will enjoy those cards in the future weeks. In touching base with him the day he came home from the hospital I asked him if he saw his office which was decorated by posters made last spring by the school children and a stuffed Winnie the Pooh was holding a huge box of cards from the parishioners. Father laughed and seemed to be happy about his giftedness by many of you. Unfortunately he hasn't been well enough to open all of them but he is doing so, little by little. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you to all of you and to the organizations who donated the postage money to send out the flyer to all parish families. This little project was in the planning stages for almost a year and without all of you it couldn't have been pulled off.
