TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

1) Numbers 11, 25-29
2) James 5, 1-6
3) Mark 9, 38-43. 45. 47-48
Moses was tired of working so hard. When he asked the Lord for help God sent some of the prophet's spirit into seventy elders of Israel (1). Jesus' disciples were concerned when strangers expelled demons in his name (3). What we have is not ours to keep. Every treasure in the world is subject to decay (2) except the treasure of service. If you are looking for a fool-proof way to count your treasures, begin by counting the blessings you are able to confer on others. A kind word readily dispensed, or a gift of time happily given earns a lasting treasure. Part of the responsibility of using the time, talent and treasure we have been entrusted with is to make a good return to the Lord for his investment in us. Kind deeds multiply grace--not just for those to whom we are kind, but for ourselves too.
Next Sunday the readings will be: 1)Genesis 2, 18-24; 2)Hebrews 2, 9- 11; 3)Mark 10, 2-16.

Your 3 Rs Fund at Work

After many delays, the roof on the 2 story wing of the parish school has been replaced at a cost of $57,815. Due to water damage and asbestos content, we had to remove the original roof completely. In 1995 we began the 3 Rs Fund with the stated purpose of replacing the school boiler, this roof and moving the school offices. The boiler was replaced at a cost of $27,500. The total spent of the 3 Rs Fund is $85,315. The fund actually collected $79,265 to date. So $6,050 had to come from our operating funds to pay these bills.

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000

Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." (Lk 23:34)
"Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?" Jesus answered, "I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times." (Mt 18:21-22) As a disciple of Jesus, how do I respond to the challenge to forgive those who have hurt me?

DAYTON DEANERY--MINISTRY 2000 TASK FORCE

As you may be aware, we have been engaged in a planning process, Ministry 2000, with 20 other parishes in the Dayton Deanery for the past nine months. Fr. Raudabaugh, Bob Panella and Susan Takacs are members of the Ministry 2000 Task Force which was commissioned by the Archbishop last September. Since then, Task Force members have had an opportunity to exchange information and to share experiences, including the strengths and weaknesses of parishes. We have learned what parishes have in common and what makes each somewhat unique in its ministries. The first of four phases has ended with the completion of a progress report. The Archbishop has reviewed the document during the Summer and discussed it with the Task Force in September. The deliverable for Phase II will consist, primarily, of a set of recommendations on ways in which parishes in the planning group might better carry out their ministries by cooperating or collaborating more with each other.
