TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

1) Genesis 2:18-24
2) Hebrews 2:9-11
3) Mark 10:2-16
Men, women and children do not exist in isolation. People are social animals. We cannot survive without each other and Jesus died to save us all. Among the treasures we often fail to recognize is the gift that other people are in our lives. One of the simple explanations as to why the Church considers marriage (a sacrament is that a marriage carefully lived become a concrete sign of God's love for all his people. God loves us as much as any spouse and more.
The children who came to Jesus -- whose path to him he wanted unobstructed -- were a sign that God always has more love for more people. Our share in the creative work of God should always be directed toward increasing love, our greatest treasure.
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Wisdom 7:7-11; 2)Hebrews 4:12-13; 3)Mark 10:17-30

LEARN THE NEW CATECHISM

Trivia Question: How is the "epiclesis" related to the Eucharist?
Do you really know all you want to know about the teachings of the Catholic Church? A small group of parishioners gather on the 1st and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM in St. Francis Hall to explore various aspects of church teaching. We use The Catechism of the Catholic Church as our resource. Deacon Max is a regular attended, so he also serves as a guide. Lessons are independent, so regular attendance is not mandatory, and reading is minimal. We would welcome more questioning people in our group.
For answer to today's trivia question, read attaint 1322-1419 in the Catechism and/or join us this Tuesday, October 7th in St. Francis Hall for "Eucharist - The Supper of the Lamb". For information, or to obtain a guide book call Molly Collinsworth, 879- 3148

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000

I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Mt 18:19-20)
How aware am I that when I gather with others in Jesus' name, he is present with us?
