TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR

1) Isaiah 53, 10-11
2) Hebrews 4, 14-16
3) Mark 10, 35-45
We envy celebrities. We would love to have the money and prestige of the great lights of Hollywood or the sports world. Yet, even in these rather small worlds of human achievement it takes work and talents to reach any lasting greatness. Now, to achieve greatness in the huge universe of God's love it takes more than work. It takes a willingness to endure pain (3). It takes a willingness to face crushing odds (1). It takes the cross. When we were given life, our talents, and the treasure produced through the use of those talents the gift was given to a purpose. We can confidently approach the throne of grace (2) if we have first followed the example of Christ and used whatever we have to advance the lot of everyone except ourselves (3).
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Jeremiah 31, 7-9; 2)Hebrews 5, 1- 6; 3)Mark 10, 46-52.

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000

I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Mt 18:19-20)
How aware am I that when I gather with others in Jesus' name, he is present with us?
