THE CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

HOPE...It's Yours to Give....

Today we participate in the collection for the Campaign for Human Development. The Campaign addresses the root causes of poverty in the United States. For more than 27 years, CHD has funded thousands of projects that empower low-income people to work together to solve community problems, strengthen families, and build affordable housing. This nationwide program funds successful projects here in our diocese. The Campaign for Human Development helps people help themselves. Hope...It's yours to give. Please give generously.

NEW CHURCH ROOFING COMING...

The days of water dripping into the church with every heavy rain or snow should soon be over. A new roof will soon be installed. We did not think that we would be able to afford this during this fiscal year, but the generosity of the late C. Marie Humbarger, who remembered us in her will, has made it possible. Remember her in your prayers.

SAVE YOUR MEIJER'S RECEIPTS!

Save and bring to the school or church your receipts from the Dayton and Springfield Meijer Stores that are dated between September 29, through December 13, 1997. MHCS can receive up to $1,000, if we receive enough receipts (we can earn $5 for every $100 in receipts). Please bring your receipts in before Christmas.

THIRTY-FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR, CHRIST THE KING

1) Daniel 7, 13-14
2) Revelation 1, 5-8
3) John 18, 33-37
Kings: Power, wealth, crowns, armies,... The list of words associated with kingship or royal power is an impressive one. But the list of words associated with Jesus before and at the time of his death is not so grand: Homeless, preacher, friend of sinners, suffering, death... Words that do not inspire us unless we connect the Jesus of history and the Christ of faith. Christ is our King. He is our king because he has conquered our enemy in his conquest of death (1,2). We must now use our every resource to proclaim the truth: this king, whose kingdom is not of this world, is nonetheless the king of the universe. Our obedience to and love of God, our love of and service to our neighbor must proclaim the truth. Jesus Christ is King.
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Jeremiah 33, 14-16; 2)1 Thessalonians 3, 12- 4,2; 3)Luke 21, 25-38. 34-36.

LEARN THE NEW CATECHISM

Trivia Question:

T or F: The "Sacrament of Annointing" is also called "Viaticum."
Do you really know all you want to know about the teachings of the Catholic Church? A small group of parishioners gather on the 1st and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM in St. Francis Hall to explore various aspects of church teaching. We use The Catechism of the Catholic Church as our resource. Deacon Max is a regular attendee, so he also serves as a guide. Lessons are independent, so regular attendance is not mandatory, and reading is minimal. We would welcome more questioning people in our group.
For answer to today's trivia question, read paragraphs 1499-1532 in the Catechism and/or join us this Tuesday, November 25th in St. Francis Hall for "Is There Anyone Sick Among You?". For information, or to obtain a guide book call Molly Collinsworth, 879-3148, or Anne Rusen, 879-8803.

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000

"It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you." (Jn 15:16)
How productive am I (how much fruit do I bear) in living my faith? What positive difference do I make in my family, neighborhood, workplace, civic community, and larger society?
