FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

1) Jeremiah 33, 14-16
2) 1 Thessalonians 3, 12- 4,2
3) Luke 21, 25-28. 34-36
The season of Advent begins the remembrance of the Lord's coming to earth in Bethlehem by recalling that we are awaiting his return at the end of time. What decides the joy or fear we should feel at the prospective return of the Lord is the kind of life we are living while we wait. If we can honestly say we are making the best use of the time, talent and resources which the Lord has given us then we have nothing to fear. It is the steward who is unprepared that should have a care and reform his/her life.
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Baruch 5, 1-9; 2)Philippians 1, 4- 6. 8-11; 3)Luke 3, 1-6.

LEARN THE NEW CATECHISM

Trivia Question:

T or F: Any Catholic in good standing has the right to receive

the sacrament of Holy Orders

Do you really know all you want to know about the teachings of the Catholic Church? A small group of parishioners gather on the 1st and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 6:00-7:30 PM in St. Francis Hall to explore various aspects of church teaching. We use The Catechism of the Catholic Church as our resource. Deacon Max is a regular attendee, so he also serves as a guide. Lessons are independent, so regular attendance is not mandatory, and reading is minimal. We would welcome more questioning people in our group.
For answer to today's trivia question, read paragraphs 1533-1600 in the Catechism and/or join us this Tuesday, December 2nd in St. Francis Hall for "Bishops, Priests, and Deacons". For information, or to obtain a guide book call Susan Spragale, 878-0125, or Anne Rusen, 879-8803.

Preparing for the Jubilee Year 2000

"It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you." (Jn 15:16)
How productive am I (how much fruit do I bear) in living my faith? What positive difference do I make in my family, neighborhood, workplace, civic community, and larger society?
