Mary, Help of Christians Bulletin
December 7, 1997
SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
1) Baruch 5, 1-9
2) Philippians 1, 4-6. 8-11
3) Luke 3, 1-6
Paul, writing to the Philippians, makes his prayer for them that they
"may learn to value the things that really matter." (2) When we begin to
understand that God loves us so much that he would level mountains and
valleys for our safe passage(1) we can begin to understand our own call to
generosity. We have nothing to fear. We will have enough resources to
accomplish God's work if only because it is God himself who will "carry it
through to completion, right up to the day of Christ Jesus."(2) If fear
has caused you to hedge your generosity, fear not! God is leading his
people. We have only to follow in his steps.
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Zephaniah 3, 14-18; 2)Philippians
4, 4-7; 3)Luke 3, 10-18.

FROM THE PASTORAL MINISTER...
I need your help! Many times during the week I receive requests and
more often than ever before I am having to say "no". I don't have the
volunteers to help--the most recent requests have been raking leaves,
babysitting, snow removal, rides to doctor appointments and wanting a ride
to church. The most pressing need right now is that we have six people
who want to come to church every Sunday. Presently I can do this for
them the fourth Sunday of the month. If I had several drivers we could
take turns. Please call the office, 879-8803, and leave your name and
number. I will call you on an as need basis. Thank you.
Also, the parish has a Port-A-Potty, a Wheelchair and Walker, adult size
Depends and Ensure to donate. If interested, please call Anne at the
above number.
Having surgery? Entering the hospital? Have a serious acute or chronic
illness? We have a great gift from God for Catholics who are ill: the
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. We offer the opportunity for
this sacrament each Monday evening during the 7:00 PM Mass. Can't make
that? Call Father Kummer or Father Raudabaugh at 878-8353 to make
arrangements.

REMEMBER YOUR PARISH IN YOUR WILL
Only you can divide your property as you want it divided. A Bequest to
your Church can be a living memorial to the nobility of your life. A
Bequest to your Church is exempt from estate and inheritance taxes, and
reduces the amount of the estate to be taxed. Your attorney will be happy
to assist you.

your receipts from the Dayton and Springfield Meijer Stores that are dated

Advent wreaths are available at the Church entrance.
MONDAY IS A HOLYDAY
The Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception is the
patroness of the United States. This Solemnity of the Immaculate
Conception, on Monday, December 8, is always a Holyday of Obligation.
Masses for the Holyday are: 6:30 AM, 9:00 AM and 7:30 PM. There will be
no Mass of the eve on Sunday. Come and praise Mary, the Mother of God, the
Mother of the Church, our Mother and our Patroness. Please note that the

THE GIVING TREE STANDS TALL AGAIN
As you can see in the vestibule, the Giving Tree stands with many cards of
people in need. We ask that you take a card with a name of a child or
adult on it and buy their wish for them. Wrap the present, and put the tag
back on it. Bring the gift back to the tree by December 16th. There are
so many needy this year and your gift may be the only one some get, so we
ask that you help us, the Daughters of Isabella, and make Christmas
special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Mighty Big Thanks!
On behalf of those in need in our Fairborn community, the members of the
St. Vincent DePaul Society thank all who so generously contributed to the
food drives at the school, at JOY Club and at the Thanksgiving day Masses.
Our pantry is now much better stocked to respond to the almost daily calls
we receive for food. God bless you.

IF YOU'VE BEEN CONSIDERING HELP...
Seeking help when we need it is a sign of strength and good sense.
Professional counseling helps us to see our worries in constructive new
ways, leaving us free to solve our own problems. Sometimes that's the
difference between struggling with a concern or resolving it now. Catholic
Social Services of the Miami Valley offers professional, confidential
counseling for family, marital and personal concerns. Appointments are
currently available. For further information, contact the Centerville
office at 434-3802.
