Mary, Help of Christians Bulletin
December 14, 1997
THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT
1) Zephaniah 3, 14-18
2) Philippians 4, 4-7
3) Luke 3, 10-18
"What ought we to do?" the crowds asked John the Baptist. "Let the man
with two coats give to him who has none. The man who has food should do
the same." he replied. "What ought we to do?" we ask Paul and Zephaniah.
"Shout for joy...sing joyfully!" replies Zephaniah. "Rejoice!...I say it
again. Rejoice!" responds Paul. It is possible to see all these responses
as equivalent. What could make us happier than to find a fulfilling way to
live our lives, and what more fulfilling thing can we accomplish than being
good stewards of God's gifts to us? Our joy comes in having enough but not
too much. Our happiness comes from raising others to happiness.
Next Sunday's readings will be: 1)Micah 5, 1-4; 2)Hebrews 10, 5-10;
3)Luke 1, 39-45.

FROM THE PASTORAL MINISTER...
I need your help! Many times during the week I receive requests and
more often than ever before I am having to say "no". I don't have the
volunteers to help--the most recent requests have been raking leaves,
babysitting, snow removal, rides to doctor appointments and wanting a ride
to church. The most pressing need right now is that we have six people
who want to come to church every Sunday. Presently I can do this for
them the fourth Sunday of the month. If I had several drivers we could
take turns. Please call the office, 879-8803, and leave your name and
number. I will call you on an as need basis. Thank you.
Also, the parish has a Port-A-Potty, a Wheelchair and Walker, adult size
Depends and Ensure to donate. If interested, please call Anne at the
above number.
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry training can help you to lead a Christian life...what was
Jesus like as a caregiver? How does He teach us to serve others? Come to
Stephen Ministry training and find out. Classes begin January 12th,
1998. Applications are in the foyer of the church or contact Anne Rusen,
879-8803.
ARE YOU REGISTERED IN THE PARISH?
Please do not take for granted that you are registered in the parish just
because you attend Mass here or that you were registered as a child with
your parents. Are you on our mailing list? Do you receive parish support
envelopes? If not, it could be quite embarrassing to us, or to you or your
family, when someone wants to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or
if you have been asked to act as a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation
which requires a note from us of your practical Catholicity. If we have no
record of your parish membership, we cannot do this. Please contact the
parish office, 878-8353, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, if you
have a question about registration.

NEW CHURCH ROOFING UNDERWAY...
The days of water dripping into the church with every heavy rain or snow
should soon be over. A new roof is now being installed. The color will be
white -- the original color of the roof -- which will help in summer time
energy saving. We did not think that we would be able to afford this
during this fiscal year, but the generosity of the late C. Marie Humbarger,
who remembered us in her will, has made it possible. Remember her in your
prayers.

IF YOU'VE BEEN CONSIDERING HELP...
Seeking help when we need it is a sign of strength and good sense.
Professional counseling helps us to see our worries in constructive new
ways, leaving us free to solve our own problems. Sometimes that's the
difference between struggling with a concern or resolving it now. Catholic
Social Services of the Miami Valley offers professional, confidential
counseling for family, marital and personal concerns. Appointments are
currently available. For further information, contact the Centerville
office at 434-3802.
