Thanks for Your Help

Especially during the holiday season, we are most grateful to all who serve our parish in liturgical roles. At this time of year, lectors, communion ministers, ushers, and servers give extra times of service. The Altar Society, cleaners, Liturgy Committee and other volunteers worked to have the church supplied and decorated. Special thanks to Jim Powers and his choir, and Karen Kuppinger and the guitar choir, who spent untold hours of practice to prepare for our beautiful services.

Recent Baptisms

Joel Anthony Engbert, son of Paul and Angie (Hoff), was baptized Dec. 14. John Jeffrey Zimmerman, son of Glenn and Jill Zimmerman, was baptized here Dec. 27.

PILGRIM VIRGIN STATUE

New Year's Resolution:
Pray Daily

Merry Christmas!

Now it can be told! You may have guessed from the column before Christmas that we were working to restore our bell system. I went up the tower in July with our men and Fr. Lydon of St. Pius to assess what was needed. This month several men spent 2 Saturdays cleaning and pigeon-proofing the tower, oiling, and restoring electrical connections. You may have heard the bells that Sat. evening as we tested the motors. While they are not fully automatic again yet, their beautiful sound comes out with a bit of help. Strenuous and messy work was done by Mike Lammert and Joe Bilger, Dave McFerron, Dennis Mazdra, and Jim Nuelle. An anonymous parish donor has provided funds. Most of all, we are glad to have the bells themselves; cast in Holland, they were blessed and anointed with oil in 1953. The large bell has an "F" tone, weighs 2,200 pounds and is named St. Frederick and St. Joseph; the middle one, "G", 1,540 lbs., St. William and St. Seraphine; the smallest, "A", 1,100 lbs., St. Mary and St. Mathilda. Once the system works on its own again, we will use them as before, for a daily Angelus at 6 p.m., and before Mass Sat. evening and Sun. morning.

Thanks to all who expressed your delight at hearing the bells again. They can be a Christmas gift to ourselves and the neighborhood, penetrating as they do into our homes and everyday lives. The hints you were given in the bulletin: "ring out", "angelus", "sound", "pitch", "heard", and my favorite, "ap peal."

A NEW YEAR BEGINS As 1998 begins we are filled with trust, hope and gratitude. Hope that we may continue our ministry and keep our doors open with the mounting client load. Trust that Our Blessed Lord will make this happen as He has in the past. Gratitude for our parishioners who are the main ministry of our pantry' to areas churches for their donations, to various donors who never fail to help, to St. Vincent dePaul for sharing clients needs and to our priests for their encouragement and patience with us at Christmas time, and to all the pray for Parish Help.
HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR.
