ASH WEDNESDAY February 25th - Ashes will be distributed after the homily at the Masses. Masses are: 6:45 & 8:00a.m. & 7p.m.

ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY are days of fast and abstinence for all Catholics over age 14. Fast and abstinence are obligatory for those from the age of 18-59. Abstinence means not eating meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with 2 other small meals and nothing between meals. All other Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The rules state that no Catholic will lightly excuse him/herself from this obligation; sickness or other circumstances should not be cause for guilt.

Fish Fry

Fish Fry, Ash Wednesday Feb. 25th from 4 to 6:30p.m. Eat in or carry out - New great menus. Sponsored by the Men's Club. Grades 1 & 8 bring cakes.

Lent

I heard a good sense of responsibility from a number of people about the 1/2 year financial report we gave last weekend. There's something about seeing actual numbers, I guess. We are a good parish, a capable parish, and I hear people saying they just want to know what they can do, what we have to do to correct the ship. I really like this spirit! It says to me that I'm not alone as pastor in my concern for the parish and not wanting things to get too far down the line. Of course that wouldn't be true, but it's easy to get absorbed by it all, and it's nice to see that I just have to share the picture with you all and then we will be in it together. I have been part before of the Steward-ship program I spoke of, and it's a very exciting time in a parish, when we all take stock of our level of participation and bring God very explicitly into the picture. We will celebrate the various ministries we are doing as a parish, and give them a push. There is room for everybody and everybody's gifts, and I suspect there are a lot of people in the parish who could be helped by an invitation to participate more full in any of a number of ways.

And now it will be Lent, a beautiful season of opportunity. Find a way you can commit yourself to spiritual and personal growth. We will all explore this in the coming weeks.

SCHOOL PARENTS

A very important meeting will be held for all school parents, at least one from each family, concerning tuition payments for the coming school year ('98-'99). All who will register a child for the coming year should attend, Tues. Feb. 24, 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Just a half-hour agenda.

WHY VOLUNTEER? There are many reasons people volunteer. They love people, They want to help, some out of boredom or community spirit, others are drawn to church organizations, hospitals, senior or children's centers, civic involvement-- as many reasons as there are people. Every volunteer is indispensable. This is true at Parish Help. This is why R.F. decided to volunteer: After retiring I decided there was more to life other than having lunch and playing cards with friends. I spent the day visiting the Friday morning crew at Parish Help and have volunteered ever since. Giving of myself I have grown spiritually and mentally and have learned to be more compassionate for less fortunate ones.
ITEMS NEEDED cereal, rice, jelly, canned meat, pasta w/meat, Mac & cheese, canned pasta sauce, spaghetti, cookies for kids, dish detergent, deodorant, bath soap, canned fruit.

C-4 MEETING ON SEARS BUILDING area church leaders, business and civic leaders will meet Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Resurrection parish hall to discuss their concerns and to present ideas for development. Representatives of Pace Properties, the current owner, and the mayor's office will attend.
