from the Pastor's Pen

While I'm thinking of it--

I want to commend Resurrection for a very good practice at Mass-that is, people stay until the end! At many parish churches, it is embarrassing how many people from back pews go directly out the back doors after receiving Communion, as if to say: "I got what I came for, the rest doesn't matter." I have noticed that at Resurrection this disrespectful habit doesn't happen. We don't rush out of a friend's home after sharing the last bite of a meal with them; so we are meant to enjoy and share the last important moments of the Mass together. The old teaching holds that Christ is present at the Eucharist in 4 ways: in the priest, in the Word, in the congregation, and in the communion species. In celebrating the Mass from beginning to end, we respect Christ's presence in all these aspects. Visitors to Resurrection no doubt notice our good manners at the Eucharist, toward the Lord and one another. Congratulations Resurrection!

Kitchen Help Wanted Picnic Day from 11 am to 6 pm. We need servers, kitchen people, cashiers, cake slicers, dish washers, clean up people. We ask each volunteer for a 2 or 3 hour shift. Cafeteria is air-conditioned.

CAN SOMEONE HELP? We are in desperate need of 2 able bodied men to pick up and deliver food orders from the St. Louis Area Food Bank on Tuesday mornings. Our faithful driver of many years can no longer assist us. We bless and thank him for his goodness. The food bank is our MAIN source of food supply. If no one comes forward to volunteer, Parish Help will have to close. A van or pick-up is essential as we usually receive 25 cases of food per order. Call Jane, 776-0198 or Nancy, 664-0877 (evenings).

SO MUCH MORE

Parish Help is so much more than a Food Pantry. Reaching out to others has become a way of life for Parish Helpers. Martha's Circle volunteers offer funeral lunches to the bereaved. Cheerful Callers send greeting cards to & visit the homebound, and make sure they have holiday dinners. We thank our volunteers for living out the gospel in many ways.
