Pentecost

THE BIRTHDAY OF THE CHURCH. Today's feast was originally a Jewish PILGRIMAGE feast. It was called by the Jews the Feast of WEEKS. (a seek of weeks is 7 x 7, or 49. The Jews counted both ends, so it made 50) The word PENTECOST means fifty. Some groups of Jews used this feast for the renewal of the Old Covenant.. On the original feast of Pentecost at Mt. Sinai, there was a great theophany. Fire, thunder, lightening showed the glory of the Lord. This may have been the background how Luke described the coming of the Holy Spirit in the "NEW" Pentecost, our Feast today.
