Mighty Big Thanks

Next Sunday, June 8, we will honor and thank our school principal of the last two years, Mrs. Kathy Sedlacek. Kathy and her family will be at the 11 a.m. Mass, and we will have a reception following in the cafeteria till around 1:30. Mrs. Sedlacek came to Resurrection School at a critical time when a principal was needed, and has made important improvements to our program including computer skills, resource-supplemental teaching, and funding. Please show your appreciation to her by your presence and perhaps a card or small gift.

Each year, CARDINAL GLENNON CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL cares for thousands of children who might not otherwise receive such expert medical care. And because Cardinal Glennon does not receive funding from the ADA or the United Way campaigns, the hospital must rely on gifts from many friends. Please be a friend by making a gift today in the annual Glennon Sunday Collection this weekend or make your checks payable to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, 1465 S. Grand Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63104.

Did You Know?

A Resurrection parishioner, Arpad Szilagyi, has written a fascinating book chronicling his arrest and persecution in Romania as part of the Hungarian Revolution against Communism in 1956. He describes his escape to America in 1988, and how faith was an essential part of surviving his bleakest days. The book was produced with the help of South Side Bank, and is available from Arpad at 776-1106.

from the Pastor's Pen

The Lord blessed us for Picnic Day again by keeping the rain away, during what was a bleak forecast. The crowds were good, the kids had a good time, and many alumni came back for a reunion. There were no big problems at all during the day. The numbers on the proceeds aren't in yet, but the day was a great success when measured as a sign of our parish spirit, and how much we and many others enjoyed our community. We can't know the hours put in by members of the Picnic Committee and their families: Mazdra, McFerron, Wilson, Torillo, Zouglas, Rickard, and all who helped with setup and teardown; others who handled the kitchen, the bingo & pulltabs, the headquarters booth, ticket booth, and all our booth chairmen. Then there were the wonderful parade floats, put together by the students and their parents with great imagination and creativity. This year the parade's theme was Bible Stories. It was neat to see Resurrection using this way to proclaim our belief about God's power throughout the neighborhood.
