PICNIC THANKS

We wish to thank all who worked at the picnic this year. The proceeds will continue to help our parish greatly, especially in areas of maintenance and repairs. While the weather was less than ideal, it could have been worse. As soon as all the bills are paid, we will give you a detailed financial report. We can say at this time that our profits are down from previous years but we still hope to profit between 10 & 12 thousand dollars. Thanks to one and all.

Message from St. Vincent de Paul Society

Many people are assisted with housing, utilities, medication, etc. through St. Vincent de Paul Society. Your donations make this possible. Thanks for your continuing support.

from the Pastor's Pen

Last week I visited some of our parishioners in a nursing home. Though they can't get to the church, these faithful people keep in touch by phone, mail, sending envelopes, and even returning their raffle tickets. Like any of us, they have interesting stories to tell-how long they've been at Resurrection, raising kids here, who they still know from the parish, what they used to do here. And they're like all of us in reviewing their life, seeing their regrets and their joys in life.
On the other end of life, new people keep coming to us, often for instance seeking entrance into our school for their children. We have already heard other interesting stories from these people, about what's happened in their lives and why they are seeking us out now. For the rest of us, who already belong and who are still able to be active members at church, these people remind us of what our parish is to us-the place where we live out our lives, the community in which we raise children and have neighbors and contribute our gifts and work out problems among ourselves. This community means a lot to people at the end or the beginning of their part in it; we should appreciate how much it means to us who are everyday members.

MAY STATS Our pantry furnished food and sundries to 149 adults and 131 children for a total of 280 people or 86 families. Parishioners donated 324 lbs of food and Immaculate Heart of Mary's St. Vincent de Paul donated 105 lbs of food.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered kitchen duty for the picnic dinner. You were great. Also a big thanks to Linda Newman who was in charge of the dinners.

WISH LIST canned beef stew, chicken and dumplings, chinese, luncheon meat, peas, fruit, koolaid, peanut butter, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, dish detergent, washing powder.

PARISHIONERS WE ARE HERE FOR YOU confidential, willing and able to help. Please call 353-2388 or Jane 772-0198.

"PICNIC IN THE PARK" has been postponed until JUNE 19th. More news to come.

We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book and Directory for the Church. This book helps us all to know more about our church-- the "who, what, where, when, why, and how of our Church." As last year, this book is being provided at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each family, and is again is being subsidized by local businesses who advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and want to find out how to advertise in the book, please call the church office at 832-7023. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize our Guide Book and Directory advertisers over a non-advertiser. It does pay to advertise in our Guide Book and Directory.

Did You Know?

A Resurrection parishioner, Arpad Szilagyi, has written a fascinating book chronicling his arrest and persecution in Romania as part of the Hungarian Revolution against Communism in 1956. He describes his escape to America in 1988, and how faith was an essential part of surviving his bleakest days. The book was produced with the help of South Side Bank, and is available from Arpad at 776-1106.
