Rest in Peace
In your charity, please pray for the repose soul of Marvin Dallas Corey. May
his soul rest in peace.
Remember
Have you been yet to Resurrection's Bingo at Kolping House? Doors open at 4:30,
Bingo starts at 6:30pm. Parishioners and non-parishioners alike have been very
favorable, and proceeds go to our church and school. Large non-smoking level.
We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book and Directory. It is
again being subsidized by local businesses who advertise in it. If you want to
help by advertising in the book, please call the church office. Recent surveys
show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize our Guide Book and Directory
advertisers over a non-advertiser. It does pay to advertise in our Guide Book
and Directory.
from the Pastor's Pen
Father's Day brought some tender thoughts to our family, as it was the first
time for this holiday since our father passed away. The absence is increased as
times like these. I can sympathize with so many of you who have lost someone
close-in this case, maybe your father, grandfather, or your husband, for whom
you helped the kids all these years celebrate his day. It's a strange paradox
that at a time like this, when the absence is sharper, a sense of presence is
also stronger, in thoughts and memories, and in a spiritual presence that is
very real. Somehow we're able to make it and go on with an extra sense of
something with us.
Last week I offered the topic of summer for a Catholic Christian. We are very
busy, functional people, even in retirement; we thrive on things to "do." As the
weather warms up (gradually, but it is) and we may be outdoors more, and even
maybe have extra time off, we have to cope with not always having something to
"do." It may even be difficult for us to relax, but the call is to open up and
see how much more is going on around us than we've been noticing. Observing
nature in the birds, trees, water, or whatever, we remember that the first name
for God is Creator: the amazing power to bring something out of nothing. Our
focus can open up from those regular tasks we need to do for our family and
home, to see that we are part of something much greater. In times when we are
relaxed, we can get a sense of God with us and our loved ones that we can't
always feel when we are so busy with our usual things. This time is not an extra
or something lazy; rather it's very closely related to prayer. That's why it's
called "re-creation", being created again by the one who did it the first time.
Then bring this sense back into church and notice the simple created elements
we use to pray with-bread, wine, water, and ordinary people.

REMEMBER THE KIDS Our food pantry offers a pretty cut and dry menu to our
clients - mac & cheese, peanut butter, pork & beans, and hot dogs are standard
fare. Not much variety, but plenty of protein. Please think of the children in
the neighborhood when you buy for Parish Help this summer. Some treats such as
cookies, pre-sweetened Kool aid, or fruit juices would surely be gobbled up.
FANS: Once again it is time to ask for fans. New, used in good condition or
donations to buy them.
YOUR HELPING HANDS Please continue to use the yellow donation envelope in
your packet. Your donations enable us to help many people.
Along with St. Vincent de Paul, we concentrate much of our effort on
parishioners.
