LATIN AMERICA APOSTOLATE

Next Sunday is the Annual Collection for our mission in Latin America (Bolivia). The St. Louis Catholic Community has always been faithful to its missionary vocation. St. Louis was established as a Diocese in 1826. In 1833, the Diocese of St. Louis sent a missionary to a group of people who had settled on the shore of Lake Michigan. This community grew and prospered and today, it is known as the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Not all of the St. Louis missionary efforts grew as dramatically as the City of Chicago did. However, 42 Dioceses and 5 Archdioceses serve the Church where previously the Archdiocese of St. Louis was alone.
In 1956 the Church of St. Louis sent 3 priest to Bolivia as missionaries. This was another first in the history of the Church; in the U.S. never had a diocese sent priest to Latin America as missionaries.
Today, although facing an ever decreasing number of priests, the St. Louis Church sent another priest to work in Bolivia. He will join the other 6 priests in service to the people of Bolivia.
Please be generous to our annual collection for Latin America next Sunday.
