NEW PARISH RENEWAL RETREAT

A team is preparing to host another Resurrection Parish Renewal Retreat November 7-9. This is a unique opportunity to grow in your Catholic faith as an adult, and to become closer to you parish at the same time. Sign-ups will be held in church the next two weekends. Ask someone who attended the last retreat in April about their experience!
POTLUCK REUNION DINNER for the April participants next Saturday, Sept. 27.

Returning God's Gifts

Our visitors continue to report progress in the Returning God's Gifts campaign. To date 12 parish households have been visited and we have received 7 gifts for a pledge total of $26,000.00. This is a average gift of $3,800.00. By now, many parishioners will have received a letter and brochure from Archbishop Rigali regarding this effort. Please read the material carefully. In the coming weeks, a visitor will call to schedule an appointment with you to discuss the campaign further. Please receive him or her warmly and consider pledging the best gift you can support of Returning God's Gifts.

RETREAT!! RETREAT!! When we hear these words said in an old movie, it sounds like a call to back off from a hard time. When used about a retreat in the church, however, it means much more. We are gearing up for another Parish Renewal Retreat. The first was held in April, with over 30 participants. What this group found was that they not only left behind a "normal" weekend of errands, work, and in some cases family; they found a great deal more then they left behind. Our Catholic faith opened up in a context in which it made so much sense-caring people, a spirit of fun and celebration. The sacraments became real as groups of parishioners shared about their meaning and then celebrated their true meaning. The weekend went far better than I had expected, and for myself too it was a renewal of what a parish really is-a group of caring people centered around Jesus. Those attending ranged from the early 20's into the 70's; some were outgoing-type people, others more reserved; some knew others attending, many bravely came in feeling new. All found the events and the schedule comfortable. It is a commitment, because the weekend must be done in its entirety; but we can usually arrange for a weekend like this if we are convinced of it. Please give real consideration to doing so for the weekend of Nov. 7-9. You just might find something! I can guarantee your parish will take on new meaning for you.
