RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS
Earlier this week, our returning God's Gifts visitors met to report on the progress of our campaign. To date, we have received $65,300.00 in pledges. Please continue to welcome our visitors as they come out to spread the message of Returning God's Gifts. And to those of you who have made a sacrificial gift, thank you.

from the Pastor's Pen

The gospels and our parish events the last two weeks tell us a lot about Christian living. Oct. 5, Ed & Kathy Hart celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary; the readings at Mass happened to be about God's intention that man and woman should live as one in this union. Jesus would not allow for exceptions based on "stubbornness," as Moses did. Today society's divorce rate is %50; the rate among Catholics is not far off. We need again to hear the call to lay down whatever is necessary in this sacred union to keep it as a sign of God's unconditional love for us. Likewise, this Sunday we celebrated Fr. Jim's 25 anniversary of ordination. The gospel spoke of giving up all-possessions, home, family, comfort-to follow the Lord. As Fr. Jim said, this call is for all Christians; priests and religious answer the call in a special way of celibacy. It may seem like a deprivation, but for those of us who choose it, the marvelous gifts of this way of living overcome dwelling on anything passed up. In both of these ways, we are called into a new life with Christ. What we sacrifice is merely done to be able to enter into something richer. Sacrifice is not easy, nor popular in our age. But as Jesus said, "For man it is impossible, but for God all things are possible."

INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC?

OR IN AN UPDATE?

Our outreach to spread our faith continues Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m., Meramec Hall. These sessions will help those interested to decide about entering the Catholic Church. Catholics who wish an updating on your faith are welcome also.

IT'S OUR 18TH BIRTHDAY!

This month Parish Help began our 18th year of ministering to God's needy. We are dedicated volunteers who take our ministry seriously. We worry and pray when our food supply is low, (which it is now). We worry about the children and elderly who haven't enough food to sustain them. We rejoice with them when they find employment and put our resources to work when they've lost their jobs. We are a DEDICATED group of terrific volunteers who take our ministry to heart and try to live God's word. Our parishioners have made our food pantry possible through your continuous contributions of cash and food. Please continue your generosity and pray for us as we thank God for you.

Our donor Grace Gaedig was asked to choose a date when she and her family could celebrate with us. This date is also All Souls Day, fitting since the gift of the sign is in memory of Charles Gaedig.

BIRTHRIGHT

We have a new mother we are sponsoring through Birthright. "Vicki", age 37, has 2 children who are 10 & 17. When she found out she was pregnant, the father of her baby told her to have an abortion because he wasn't helping her with any expenses. Although Vicki has multiple health problems, she is determined to carry her baby. She needs help with the rent since the baby's father left her. Because of people like you, we are able to help her out. Thank you for your generosity. We will update you periodically. We will be selling BIRTHRIGHT CHRISTMAS CARDS on the weekends of Nov. 15th & 16th and Nov. 22nd and 23rd in the foyer of the Church.
