NO PARKING
There are new No Parking areas on Meramec at the church corner and in front of
the school door. These are for safety, so that children, people crossing the
corner, and the stop sign can be seen. The zones are needed for safety and
visibility at all times. Please observe these zones; the police will be
ticketing them.

RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS
Earlier this week, our returning God's Gifts visitors met to report on the
progress of our campaign. To date, we have received $72,890.00 in pledges.
Please continue to welcome our visitors as they come out to spread the message
of Returning God's Gifts.
NEXT WEEK-All those who did not receive a phone call or home visit to respond
to the Archbishop's letter, please come to the church foyer after Mass. A
campaign worker will help you fill out your pledge.
from the Pastor's Pen
Today's feast of All Souls brings beautiful things to us. I remember how special
the feast suddenly became after the death of my grandmother. In fact, it was her
birthday too, and when she died I understood how important was the connection
in prayer that All Souls Day fosters. Since my next grandmother died six years
ago, again this feast became a very special time to remember her and be united
in prayer. Now, this year with my father's death, it has even more meaning, the
connection is so strong. Many of you no doubt know the strange feeling I do of
how the death of a loved one is still affecting you very strongly, while others
around you don't realize it's still affecting you. This feast unites us in
awareness of the spiritual communion we have with our own "saints."
And on this day, we dedicate our church sign, a gift from Grace Gaedig in memory
of her husband Charlie. Grace asked that there not be a plaque with his name on
it, just to let the sign speak for itself. And it does, proclaiming the
Resurrection of Our Lord to all who pass by. Grace's tribute will be in all the
times that people will know from now on that this is our church, and this is our
belief. Her gift, and Charlie's memory, like their participation in our parish
for many years--and that of all who do likewise--show how lasting the effect of
our life can be, even if it seems short in time.
Finally, I will be on retreat this week (returning only for Confirmation.) I
again make a challenge to you, using the words of Jesus: Can you pray one hour
with me? A half hour? ten minutes? Can you take time out from the busy-ness to
read a favorite scripture or prayer book? Please join me.
