RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS

CONGRATULATIONS to Resurrection! We have gone over our goal of $82,676. This week we celebrate with gratitude and joy the successful completion of our parish's campaign for RETURNING GOD'S GIFTS. We are asked, as a parish, to participate in a campaign that will have a positive impact on the ability of our Church to address important areas of need for many years to come. We were asked, as Christian stewards, to give back to God what is His, according to the measure in which He has blessed us. We did it!

3rd ANNUAL PRAYER WALK

We will hold our 3rd Annual Prayer Walk next Sunday, Nov. 23, to celebrate and pray for our neighborhood. These events have created very good feelings about our parish community among our local area and St. Louis at large. Leaves from in front of church about 11:45, after 11 a.m. Mass. Route is about 1/2 mile, Spring to Keokuk to Gustine, back to church. (Those unable to walk can remain in church and pray.) And, the Ladies Club is hosting a HOTDOG SOCIAL in the cafeteria afterward!

from the Pastor's Pen

As Fr. Jim has taken up his new assignment, many here will miss him. It's true that as each priest comes to a parish, he touches some people who may not have been reached the same way before, and a loss is felt when he leaves. Last week I asked, what is our attitude toward each other now, as we go on as a parish?

A seminary professor told us the only attitude for the priests and people of a parish to have: "What you got is what you need." We have everything we need to have a great parish and to do our mission! People may wish for a certain kind of priest, with this or that kind of personality or gifts for preaching or other kinds of work. They should look upon the priest(s) they have as having these gifts, and set about to recognize them or draw them out. Priests and other parish leaders can wish they had parishioners with certain skills or gifts-that we had more accountants or lawyers, bricklayers; more rich people or, in some cases, wish for more poor people to make things real. Well, "what we got is what we need." With these priests and these people, we can build the kingdom! in our neighborhood. We've had a great life in the two years I've been here. There is a lot more to discover, more to do and more to celebrate. Do you believe we have what we need? Do we believe we are a fully functioning cell of the Body of Christ?

Speaking of our time to come-my personal congratulations to our parish upon reaching the goal set for the Archbishop's endowment campaign. It might be time for some "normal parish life" for awhile, without a major program. We launched our own endowment last fall, the retreats in the spring, and this Archdiocesan program this fall. It might be good to relax together, without a major "new" effort the next few months, and enjoy growing in the normal ways of the sacraments, our organizations and school. There will be things to do later next year, but till then let's use our ordinary parish opportunities, which after all are quite extraordinary.
