Commission for Christian Social Action

 

Caring Christian Community - Bill Spangler (876-3606) - An outreach program designed to build up the spirit of community in our parish, it gives parishioners a vehicle in which to volunteer their time and talent to serve the Saint Luke community. A parishioner in need of respite care, shopping for shutins, or any other type of assistance may call this group for help.

Christian Social Action Commission - Bill Spangler, Chairperson (876-3606) - This commission is charged with coordinating and enhancing the social justice outreach ministries of the parish. We currently sponsor a variety of projects to assist the hungry and homeless in Indianapolis and welcome volunteers and new ideas.

First Sunday Sharing - Bill and Marilyn Wagner (844-9231) - - On the first weekend of every month, parishioners are asked to bring non-perishable food and men's clothing to help the homeless of our city. Volunteers are needed to help distribute these items to local shelters or food pantries.

Good Samaritans - Barbara House (575-8128) - This group prepares meals for families and guests following funerals. Dinner can be either in the Reception Room or in the home. Volunteers also house sit if needed.

Harvest for the Hungry Garden - George Clift (259-8079) - During the Summer this committee raises fresh vegetables for distribution to the poor and needy of Indianapolis.

Indiana Catholic Conference - Bill Spangler (876-3606)- The Indiana Catholic Conference (ICC) represents the Catholic Church at the Statehouse. It is supported by volunteers that are kept informed on issues by the ICC staff. Volunteers then lobby their own legislators via personal visits, letters, or telephone calls.

Pro-Life Committee - John and Alice Hanagan (872-7381)

Saint Vincent de Paul Society - Sondra Wellman (253-3707) - This organization provides aid to the poor and needy. Volunteers are needed to make home visits, answer the "Help Line", staff the phone lines, and assist in the warehouse. Meetings are on the second and fourth Sunday at 9:45 a.m. 'in Conference Room 11 or in the Learning Center. Beggars for the Poor is a ,,special work" of the SVDP.
