There are two programs for the Children's Liturgy of the Word. One is where the Liturgy Leaders and
Assistants take the children to the Council Room during the 5:30, 12:00, and
6:00 Masses. The other is called a Children’s Liturgy Mass where the whole congregation is involved during the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Children’s Liturgy in the Council Room is for children from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. It is held during the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday and the 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m.Masses on Sunday (not Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s or Easter weekends. Last one until the fall will be weekend before Mother’s Day). After the opening prayer the children are invited to come to the altar. Then the priest gives the children his blessing and the Liturgy Leaders take them to the Council Room. The main goal of the Children's Liturgy of the Word is to help the children who participate to grow closer to God and His people. Therefore, we read and explain the Bible readings to them in words they understand. We also pray, read, sing, act out stories, and engage in other activities so that they will be able to use what they learn to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. After the Liturgy, the children return to Mass before the gifts are taken to the altar. Children’s Liturgy Masses are held at 10:00 or 12:00 at different times of the year. The Children’s Choir and Middle Grade Choirs sing. The SJN Players act out the Gospel story. Jr. Lectors do the greetings, readings, and prayers of the faithful. |
