You’re Invited to Help Compile a Diocesan History

Mr. John Glover, a professional photographer, will be visiting and photographing every church in the Diocese of Charlotte over the next few weeks. Mr. Glover is working with the diocese on a commemorative book that will be available in late 2006. Essays and poems from the clergy, the religious and the faithful are being sought for this book. A SPANISH MASS is said at 2 p.m. every Sunday at St. Vincent de Paul Church. The church is at Park Road and Old Reid Road, near the Southpark area.
...and a Mass is celebrated every Sunday evening at 7:15 p.m., at St. Gabriel Church at the corner of Sharon Amity and Providence Road in southeast Charlotte.

PERPETUAL ADORATION is available for all members of the clergy and laity in the Diocese of Charlotte, at St. Gabriel Church. STRENGTHEN HEALTHY MARRIAGES — A Biblically based marriage enrichment workshop offered by Catholic Social Services, will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on four Tuesdays — Sept. 13, 20, 27 and Oct. 4. Sessions will be at the St. Gabriel Ministry Center, with a price of $50 a couple.

SENIORS’  RETREAT — The annual Fall Day of Reflection for Seniors will be held on two dates and at two sites.
The first session from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 13, will be at St. Mark Church in Huntersville. Registration deadline is Oct. 6. The presenter will be Msgr. Anthony Marcaccio, and Bishop Jugis will say the closing Mass.
The second session is from 9:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Catholic Conference Center in Hickory, with Fr. Ed Sheridan as the presenter and saying the closing Mass. NEW PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN — Catholic Social Services, in partnership with Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, is introducing New Horizons for Children and Families. St. Matthews' Knights of Columbus will open their new Wedding and Reception Center Sunday, Oct 2nd at 9009 Bryant Farms Road, in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte. The facility has an upscale look, with a backyard patio available for wedding ceremonies. The facility can handle up to 200 people. For details, call (704) 341-3312.

THEOLOGY ON TAP is a Tuesday night speaker series designed to provide young professional adults (20’s to 40’s) with the opportunity to discover more about their faith, in a relaxed open environment.

A CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday monthly at the St. Matthew Church Chapel, on Ballantyne Commons Parkway. MOMS IN TOUCH is an international organization of praying moms, meeting weekly to pray for the needs of their children’s schools. The Mecklenburg-area coordinator is Maria Foster, (704) 366-3332. She can give you the contact person for the various local school groups.

THE ALLEGRO FOUNDATION is looking for people who have a talent of working with children with special needs — or would like to learn. The Allegro Foundation is a nonprofit organization that works with special needs children to develop motor skills, social skills, and problem-solving skills — while building their self-esteem and a sense of independence. Sessions are 30 minutes in the evening, and you can volunteer for as many or as few as your schedule allows. Training is provided. WANTED: INSTRUCTIONS on how to say the Rosary in other languages. If you speak another language and can provide this information, contact Diana, (704) 531-2456. Especially needed is help in Korean, Hungarian, Creole, Greek, Dutch, French and German.

 

COUNSELING SERVICES for anyone experiencing difficulty in their lives is available from Catholic Social Services. There is a sliding scale fee, and the agency assists in filing insurance claims.

 

"THREADS OF HOPE, Finding Unity Through Our Stories of Faith" is a collection of inspirational stories, essays and poems written and published by St. Matthew Church parishioners. The book is $8. For details, check the Web site, www.stmatthewcatholic.org.

 

“JUST SECOND FRIDAYS” takes place from 1-2 p.m. Friday, in the lower level (Atrium Room) of the Annex Building of St. Peter Catholic Church. The annex is off South College Street, near the Convention Center. Guest speaker is John Carr, Director of the Social Development and World Peace Office for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. SHINING STARS is a not-for-profit adult day respite program, providing relief for caregivers and activities for care-receivers. Fr. Frank O’Rourke, who was pastor at St. John Neumann during the 1980’s, is leading a trip to Rome, from December 1st-8th, 2005. Fr.
