In Our Parish
WEDDING VOW RENEWAL MASS
- At the 11 am mass
today we honor those couples in our parish who are
celebrating their 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th and above
anniversaries. Along with their families they will be
honored at a luncheon to follow the mass. We pray that
their example of fidelity may inspire all of us to a
continued faith and hope in our future.
PRESENTATION OF CREED & OUR FATHER
- The
candidates for full reception into the Church & the
Catechumens will receive copies of the Creed & Our
Father at 9:30 mass today. These symbols of our faith
tradition are real treasures to our shared life in
Jesus. We will entrust them to these candidates &
catechumens as a sign of our confidence in them and
their willingness to continue to walk with us on the
faith journey. They will be going on a day of retreat
next Sunday and we will be having the Rite of Sending
at the 9:30 mass on Feb. 22. Please keep them in your
prayers as they discern this next step and prepare
themselves to be presented to the bishop.
PARISH COUNCIL
- The next meeting of the Council
will be Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 pm. Please note the
change in date. Agenda items: Census Program
Presentation, Election of Officers, discussion of
strategic plan of diocese & implications for parish
goals etc. Visitors are welcome. The meeting will be
held in the rectory basement.
SUNDAY MORNING CONVERSATIONS
-The next Sunday
morning Conversation is scheduled for Feb. 22 after
9:30 mass. Topic: "Facing Medical & Moral Questions".
Fr. Ryan will discuss the Catholic Moral principals and
values at stake as we face many dilemmas regarding
healing & contemporary medical procedures & practices.
How far should we go in keeping someone alive? When is
enough, - enough!?! What are current changes in law
advocating with assisted suicide? Join us for this
very provocative topic. Samples of living wills and
durable power of attorney will be available from the
Missouri Bar Association for participants to look at
and/or take home.
EASTERN EUROPE COLLECTION
-Next Sunday we will
have a second collection to support the rebuilding of
Churches in Eastern Europe. Buildings were destroyed &
resources are non-existent. Now that Communism has
fallen in Easter Europe we need to support our fellow
Catholics in helping the Church re-establish itself.
Please be generous.
DEATH PENALTY SEMINAR
-This Thursday we will
have a seminar on capital punishment. This
inter-active workshop is sure to inform and challenge
participants to reflect on whether we should continue
to allow the State to "kill in our name." Join us for
this workshop on "State Sanctioned Murder and the Moral
Implications of Killing in our name - Does the Death
Penalty Enhance or Demean the Value of Human Life?"
The seminar will be in the rectory meeting room
Thursday, February 19 at 7 pm.
