Welcome Archbishop Rigali
We are very honored to have Archbishop Rigali visit our
parish this weekend for the 9:30 am Sunday mass. All
parishioners and their families are invited to come and
visit with Archbishop Rigali after the mass. A light
breakfast will be served in the cafeteria immediately
after the mass. We hope as many as possible will join
us for the special occasion. This is a good
opportunity to say hello to our chief shepherd and to
have him bless all the Mothers(Grandmothers) of our
parish on this their special day. He will have a
Mother's Day Blessing during the 9:30 am mass.
Happy Mother's Day
We want all the mothers, grandmothers, great
grandmothers, foster mothers, step-mothers and
godmothers to know that you are very important to our
community's life. Your witness to the faith has
nurtured God's presence among us and enabled the Spirit
to work in our lives. We pray for you today that God
will bless you and that you will experience through all
the signs of appreciation and love from your families
that you are special to us. May God bless all of you.
Wedding Banns
2nd Publication - Joseph P. O'Keefe & Nicole A. Irovic
DIACONATE BANNS
C. Allen Boekeker from our parish will be ordained to
the permanent diaconate on June 7, 1997 at the St.
Louis Cathedral. It is required by canon law that
publication of these banns be placed in the Church
bulletin prior to his ordination. Anyone who knows any
reason why this candidate should not be ordained is
bound to disclose this immediately. Contact the
rectory or the Permanent Decant Office (961-4320 ext.
401).
DIACONATE CELEBRATION
Our parish will have a welcoming reception for Deacon
Boedeker on June 8 after the 11:00 am mass. Deacon
Boedeker is expected to be assigned to Most Precious
Blood Parish. He will continue to work with our RCIA
Program, Liturgy Committee and Baptismal Preparation
Programs. After his course work is completed he will
also take on additional duties. We look forward to his
ordination, official assignment and working with our
parish. Please mark your calendar and welcome him at
the parish reception.
PSR GRADUATION & CLOSING MASS
Another year is completed and our eighth grade will be
leaving us. The graduation and closing school mass
will be held on May 12 at 7:00 pm. Parents and family
members are invited to attend. Certificates of
completion of studies will be awarded. Our new fifth
grade servers will also be acknowledged with pins and
welcomed onto the list of altar servers. At this mass
we will also say good-bye to one of our teachers, Mrs.
Sue Flynn who will not be returning next year. We will
miss her. Mrs. Flynn has been with us for four years.
Please Pray for All the Sick
VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DINNER
Each year we honor all the volunteers who spend so much
time in our parish school with so many programs.
Cafeteria workers, playground supervisors, library
workers, tutors, learning center aides, room mothers,
nurses, and youth group coordinators. We thank you for
all you do and hope this dinner will show our
appreciation and esteem. See you on May 15 in the
school cafeteria.
WEARING RED
Sunday, May 18 is the feast of Pentecost. The Liturgy
Committee is asking all parishioners to wear something
red. Decorations will also be placed outside as you
come into the Church. The theme is to take our message
to the world. We hope that the bright colors and
decorations will be a reminder to celebrate ourselves
as Church and to give witness to the gospel message to
our world.
RCIA BRUNCH
All persons who were baptized or received into the
Church here at MPB for the last 5 years have been
welcomed back for a reunion on Pentecost Sunday. They
will be joining us at the 11:00 am mass and then a
lunch will follow. This is a great way to see the
growth of the Church in our local community. You
accompanied them on their journey of faith through your
prayers during each Lenten season, now rejoice with
them on the birthday of our Church as God's grace
continues to manifest insight in our midst.
Parish Council
The next meeting of the parish council will be
Wednesday, May 14, at 7:00 pm in the rectory meeting
room. Agenda items include: setting priorities for
long-term budget items, planning for parish census,
review of goals for first half of year. Meetings are
open to all parishioners.
School Picnic
On Friday, May 23, we will have the annual school
picnic and parade. It will begin at 9:30 am with a
parade of the students through the Bellwood Subdivision
and then back to the parking lot. Parishioners are
invited to watch the parade and cheer the students on.
After the parade the students and their families will
go to Sylvan Springs Park for rides, activities and
picnics. Be sure to pray for good weather. The theme
of this years parade is "Celebrating Colors". Our own
MPB band will also be featured in the parade.
ADA RETURNS
A special thank you to all the volunteers who solicited
on behalf of the Archdiocesan Development Appeal. Any
workers or captains who still have calls to make are
asked to do so this week and return their cards to the
rectory. We appreciate all your efforts to make these
calls in a timely fashion.
TRIVIA NIGHT
Trivia Night will be sponsored by St. Ann's Ladies
Guild. See enclosed flyer for details.
BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERS
We congratulate the new Board of Education members:
Lisa Messmer, Scott Pedrotti and Vince Doder. They
were nominated to fill the three slots open on the
board and only three people were running so they have
been appointed to fill the posts. We thank the
outgoing members, Paulette Crawford, Bob Wich and Jim
Risk, for outstanding work. Many difficult issues were
tackled under their guidance. We are very grateful to
them for years of service to our community.
QUOTE FROM THE CHURCH'S SOCIAL TEACHINGS
When there is a question of protecting the rights of
individuals, the poor and helpless have a claim to
special consideration. The rich population has many
ways of protecting themselves, and stands less in need
of help.... Rerum Novarum #29
