P. S. R.

PSR classes begin on Monday, September 8th at 6:45 pm. This year we will have orientation/open house for the parents and children on the same night, namely September 8th. It is important that at least one parent attend with their child/ren on September 8th. If you did not register your child/ren for this year 1997-1998, please call Sr. Rose at 487-6456.

School News

Beginning July 1 of each year we start the payments for the 1997-98 school year. Parents have asked us to base the tuition rate on a 52 week basis. Therefore the payments will begin this week for the 1997-98 school year. Please send your tuition payments in a separate envelope to the rectory or drop it in the collection basket. Do not put it in your regular Sunday offertory envelope. State law requires that we keep all tuition funds separate from Church offerings. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.

Tuition Assistance

Any family needing financial assistance for the 1997-98 school year is asked to contact the rectory for financial aid application forms. No previous agreements carry over from last year. We are required to review these requests annually. Please file these requests immediately.

School Registration

School Registration for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade are being taken. Call Dr. Burgoon at 892-5349.

SCHOOL UNIFORM NEWS

If you have ordered your school uniforms from "Just me Apparel", you may pick them up on Wednesday, August 6th from 6:30-8:30 pm in the school cafeteria.

If you have not ordered your uniforms, "Just Me Apparel" is now open for the 'Back to School' season. Be sure your child is in uniform for the start of school. Call 391-3551 for store hours.

QUOTE FROM THE CHURCH'S SOCIAL TEACHINGS

Work is more than a way to make a living; it is an expression of our dignity and a form of continuing participation in God's creation. People have the right to decent and productive work, to decent and fair wages, to private property and economic initiative. Workers have the strong support of the Church in forming and joining unions and worker associations of their choosing in the exercise of their dignity and rights. In Catholic teaching, the economy exists to serve people, not the other way around. US Catholic Bishops "A Century of Social Teaching".

Pray for Vocations

In Appreciation

Archbishop Justin Rigali honored volunteers at an ADA Appreciation Mass on Saturday, July 19, at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. Tom & Ginny Mataya have served as ADA volunteers for at least 5 years and were invited to this special mass. The Archbishop has called ADA volunteers "the lifeblood of the most important annual charitable undertaking of the Archdiocese." The results of this year's campaign will be announced in late August. This campaign provides benefits to over one-half million men, women and children throughout the Archdiocese's 10 deaneries.

Did You Know?

The diocese of St. Louis was established on July 18, 1826; the archdiocese, July 20, 1847. When St. Louis was elevated to an archdiocese on July 20, 1847, Bishop Kenrick became its first archbishop. Three years later the extent of his jurisdiction was contracted to the state of Missouri. Before his death in 1896, some 16 new sees had been erected out of the original Diocese of St. Louis. In 1956 the archdiocesan boundaries were again adjusted, leaving only 10 counties surrounding the city of St. Louis within the archdiocese's territory. At the same time, the diocesan boundaries were completely realigned, with the third suffragen See of Jefferson City added in the state of Missouri. At present, the Archdiocese numbers 227 parishes and 8 missions, with a total of 864 priests including 383 religious; there are also 208 permanent deacons, 190 brothers and 2416 sisters engaged in various works. Also operating under Catholic auspices are 29 high schools and 155 elementary schools. The Catholic population is 558,800.
