Memoriam

Mission Sunday envelopes were not included in the regular packets due to an error at the envelope company. Somehow, all our envelopes were sent to St. George Parish. We do not want to let this most important missionary work of our diocese go by without our sacrifices. Therefore we have obtained a separate envelope from the Mission Office. It does not have your name on it. Please put your name on it along with your contribution and return it next Sunday in the second collection. Missionary work is an important part of being Church. Please be generous.

School Registration

School Registration for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade are being taken. Call Dr. Burgoon at 892-5349.

FACULTY IN-SERVICE

The Faculties from the Parish School and School of religion will be attending the Archdiocesan Religious Education Institute on Tuesday, August 19 at St. Louis University. This will kick off the opening training sessions. In-Service days will be held the rest of the week for the Parish School and the PSR Faculty will meet on Sunday, August 24 for their in-service. Please keep our teachers in your prayers. They really do make a major contribution to the mission of our parish.

SCHOOL OPENINGS

The first day of school will be August 25. This will be a half day for grades 1 - 8. The remainder of the week will be full day sessions. Kindergarten classes begin on Tuesday, September 2. The Hot Lunch Program begins on Tuesday, August 26. We look forward to having the students return. There will be 2 new teachers and 1 part-time teacher. Grade 3 teacher will be Cindy Novacek, Grade 7 teacher will be Michael Smith and the new physical education teacher will be Sandra Bast.

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS

We have added many things to the building over the course of the summer. There are all new cabinets and counters in the science room. The school has a new intercom system in all the classrooms and cafeteria. We have been hooked up to the cable network for Cooperative School Districts. This means we can access programs any time they are broadcast with taping possibilities and have installed 5 TV's in the classrooms for immediate use. We have also installed hook-ups to the classroom computers for over-head projection. In this way all students can see the information at the same time. All classroom computers are networked to the computer room and to the on-line services that the school purchased. We hope that the students will make good use of these innovations. The final project will be finished shortly. New fencing will be installed around the back part of the playground. This should make it safer for the children.

NOTRE DAME PRE-SCHOOL

is now accepting registrations for 3-5 year olds. Call 544-0455, ext. 254 for more information.

Help Others

Work Needed - Friday of this week will be the last day for our 2 summer helpers, Jose Torres and Geraldo Terrazas. I am sure you can see the fine job they have done. Both men are immigrants from Mexico and are legally working in the United States. If anyone has need of small home repairs (e.g. painting, gutter cleaning, carpet cleaning, etc.) please call the rectory. Salary is $6.50/hour. They are also open to full-time employment, if anyone has a lead.

ARCHDIOCESE CELEBRATES ITSELF

August 25 is the feast of St. Louis and the diocese will celebrate its 150th Anniversary as a diocese. We will have a special prayer service here on Monday, August 25 at 7:00 pm. This will be followed by a reception on the church front lawn. Please plan to join us as we thank God for the many blessings bestowed on us in the Church of St. Louis. Bring the kids. The entire diocese is also invited to join Most Reverend Justin Rigali for a celebration of the Eucharist on October 19 at 5:00 pm at the St. Louis Cathedral. This will be the formal diocesan celebration. There will be a special supplement in the St. Louis Review on August 22. Be sure to look for it.

QUOTE FROM THE CHURCH'S SOCIAL TEACHINGS

The abundance of goods and services available in some parts of the world, particularly in the developed North, is matched in the South by an unacceptable delay, and it is precisely in this geopolitical area that the major part of the human race lives. Sollicitudo Rei Socialis #14
