HOMECOMING UPDATE

There are so many people and institutions to thank for making the Homecoming such a success. You will find enclosed in the bulletin a list of companies who donated prizes to the festival. We want to publicly acknowledge them and encourage you to support their businesses.
We also want to thank all the coordinators and booth captains for the hours of work that go into preparing for such an event. It takes months of planning and you really pulled it off. Thanks again, too, to Sue Augsburger the Chairperson for this years event. It really was a Homecoming for so many. And finally thanks again to all the volunteers who worked the booths, kitchen, fry shed, and money counting. It was real team work. Early figures look like $23,000 as the gross number (this is before any expenses are paid). We should surpass last year's profit. The final word goes to all who came to the Homecoming. Your generous support is much appreciated. This is what memories are made of.

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY

Today is Catechetical Sunday. We honor the faculties from the Parish School, School of Religion, the Adult Faith Development Committee, and the RCIA Team as our Catechists. They and the Board of Education will make a commitment to the parish at the 9:30 am mass today to carry out the Religious Education Programs for our parish during the coming year. Our Catechists and Board Members will then be invited along with their families to a brunch in the school cafeteria. Be sure to keep them in your prayers. Remember! Religious Education is the #2 priority of our parish. Only liturgy ranks ahead of it.

PARISH RETREAT

This is the first time we are sponsoring a parish retreat. It will be held on Sunday, September 21, at Our Lady of Snows Shrine in Belleville, Il. Families of all ages, with or without children, single persons, widows, widowers and divorced persons with or without children are welcome to come. The day will include 2 meals and a Sunday mass. You will need to register. Sign up after mass or call the rectory (487-6456).

Welcome New Members

Twice a year we have a Welcoming Brunch for new parishioners. The next brunch is scheduled for Sunday, October 5 after the 9:30 am mass. If you are new to the area and/or have not previously registered, please give the rectory a call. We would like to personally invite you to meet the leadership and to see what kind of services and programs we have to offer here at MPB. Join us in creating God's family here in south county.

PRIESTS DAY OF PRAYER

This Tuesday, September 16, our archdiocese is celebrating a day for the sanctification of priests. All Catholics are invited to pray throughout the day that a spirit of holiness would fill the hearts of our priests in imitation of Jesus Christ, the High Priest. The priests themselves will be gathering for prayer together with the Archbishop, from 10am to 3 pm.

Special Mass

MOTHER THERESA MEMORIAL

- Archbishop Justin Rigali celebrated a memorial mass for Mother Theresa at 7 pm on September 11th at the St. Louis Basilica Cathedral. Parishioners are invited to attend a memorial mass here at Most Precious Blood on Wednesday, September 17 at 8:00 am. We praise and thank God for the gift of her life and the legacy she has left in caring for the poor.

GOLD ENVELOPE

The Parish Council and the Finance Committee have both recommended to me that we discontinue the Gold Envelope which has been included in your monthly envelope packet. It has achieved it's purpose. We have paid off the new boiler in the Church/School building, repaired the basement flooding problem in the rectory, repaired the roof leaks on the school and after replacing the borrowed money to pay for the things we have built up a little reserve fund. We are very grateful for all that the parishioners have done to meet the crisis. A full explanation of our finances and the planning we are doing for the future will be presented at the masses on the weekend of October 11/12. Detailed information from the finance committee will be given. The Gold Envelope has stopped as of September 1, 1997.
