THERE WILL BE NO 6:30 AM MASS THIS FRIDAY

DIOCESAN ANNIVERSARY

The Archbishop will celebrate a special mass next Sunday, October 19 at 5 pm at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis to mark the 150 anniversary of the founding of the Archdiocese. All are invited to join Archbishop Rigali for the mass of thanksgiving. The ceremony will also mark the designation of our Cathedral as a Basilica. This is a special honor for our mother Church here in St. Louis.

FLU SHOTS

The Visiting Nurse Association will make flu shots available after masses TODAY Sunday, (October 12) from 9 am to 11 am in the cafeteria. Cost is $10.00 per shot. Medicare B cards are accepted for free shots but not Medicare HMO cards. Shots are available to persons of all ages.

FINANCIAL REPORT

You will find enclosed in today's bulletin a copy of the parish financial report. This is late in coming but the Parish Council felt it was important to have the report commented at all the masses by the President of the Parish Council and the Pastor. Please feel free to contact any Parish Council Member for suggestions on the future direction of our Stewardship efforts or to contact any member of the Finance Committee for clarification on the financial report. You will be receiving a mailing this week asking you to consider your financial support to the parish for next year. Thank you for a job well done. May God continue to bless our efforts.

VOCATION PRAYER CROSS

On October 22nd the Archdiocesan Vocation Cross will be in our parish. The cross has been moving from parish to parish across the diocese. The day it arrives in a parish, they are asked to have a special mass in the morning, followed by Eucharistic adoration during the day and concluded with Benediction in the evening. Parishioners are encouraged to make a special effort to come to church that day and pray for vocations. Booklets will be available when you enter the Church. The mass will be at 8 am and the closing Benediction will be at 7 pm. Make plans ahead to join us.

Parents picking up students after school are asked to come 15 minutes early and pray before you pick-up the kids. Parish School students will be coming throughout the day to spend time in prayer. PSR students are encouraged to come at 6:30 pm and to stay for Benediction. We must pray for vocations if we want God to bless our Church in the future with ministers. That must be done now. Please join us.

Mission Sunday

Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday. The day we prayerfully remember all the men and women who represent us as missionaries in spreading the faith and the day that we express our support through our financial contribution. These men and women labor to bring God's message of salvation to all peoples in every land. Please be generous in your support. There is a separate envelope for this in your packet.

ARCHDIOCESAN ECUMENICAL COMMISSION

On Monday evening at 7 pm the Commission will be meeting here at MPB in the rectory meeting room to discuss relations with other churches and faiths. This is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Our Lord prayed "that we may all be one." We cannot loose the vision Pope John XXIII worked so hard to promote.

PARENT MEETING FOR FIRST RECONCILIATION

All parents in the Parish School and School of Religion who have children enrolled in the Sacramental Preparation Program for First Penance and Eucharist this year are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, October 16 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. It is most important that parents attend this meeting. Please support your child's religious formation.

SOCIAL CONCERNS PROJECT

The Parish Council and Social Concerns Committee has decided to work with St. Francis de Sales Parish on its housing for immigrants project. We have agreed to work on re-habing one two-family apartment building. Volunteers are needed for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, scraping and just plain hard work of getting a building in shape. Work party's are being planned. Call Dolores Zerbarini (544-4375) or Frank Roser (677-8273) or Kim Gaskell (638-0149) for more information or to volunteer just 2 hours would be great.

CO-CHAIRPERSON NEEDED

John Barbeau has agreed to chair the Fall Festival for 1998 here at MPB. We are still in need of a co-chair. The co-chair will learn the ropes next year and hopefully will become the chair in 1999. Please consider this responsible position as a way to give witness to your faith through using the talents God has given you by organizing God's people here at MPB as we continue our mission as parish family.

We are also in need of a chairperson and co-chair for the Lucky Six Program. While this is not as involved as the Homecoming, it is extremely important in our fundraising efforts. Please don't let the parish down. We are in this together.

VIDEO & DISCUSSION

On Monday, October 13th we will have the first video on "Eucharist, A taste of God." This is the first of four Monday evenings during October and November. Fr. Joe Kempf will be the presentor on the video. Time 6:45-8 pm in the cafeteria.

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMENTS

- It will be necessary above all to abandon a mentality in which the poor-as individuals and as peoples-are considered a burden, as irksome intruders trying to consume what others have produced. The poor ask for the right to share in enjoying material goods and to make good use of their capacity for work, thus creating a world that is more just and prosperous for all.
