It's not too early to mark Sunday, October 14 on your calendar for the annual parish picnic. There were be food galore (American picnic food like fried chicken and potato salad as well as those yummy Vietnamese eggrolls and fried rice). The celebration will commence at 9:30 a.m. with recitation of the rosary followed by the Bishop's procession and Holy Mass.
(Note: The Latin Mass, usually scheduled for the second weekend of the month, has been moved to the first Sunday, October 7, to accommodate the picnic schedule.)
Our youngest parishioner, Anne Elizabeth Swan, was baptized this past Friday (September 14). Anne was born on August 28 (weighing in at 8 lb. 2 oz.), and her proud parents are Mike and Gail Swan.
We welcome Anne to St. Anthony's and rejoice in her baptism into the Lord's grace as a child of God.
Newman Book Club Meeting and Catered Luncheon. "Special Musical Program," 12:30 p.m., Monday, September 24, Church of the Magdalen, 457 S. Woodlawn. $7.00. All Catholic women are welcome to attend. Reservations required by September 20. Call 721‑5328 or 744‑1010.
A very happy birthday to Claire Kern and Mildred Ferderer who both celebrate on September 20. (Claire has had some health challenges in the past year but sings the Lord's praises louder than ever! Saints among us!)
On August 28 one of our parish stalwarts passed to her eternal reward. Polly Belton had lived in the 300 block of North Ohio for over five decades and was active in the parish life of St. Anthony's for most of that time. She cooked for both the school children and the priests as well as later at the Anthony Family Shelter, in addition to participating in other parish activities. Her spirituality ran deep, as witnessed by the marvelous eulogy given by her Marty at her funeral. Please remember her in your prayers and keep her name before the throne of grace. .
