Mission StatementWe are a community of people of all ages whom God has called together through Baptism to live the two great commandments of love within the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes, a local church situated within the greater church of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield. We were called forth by the Bishop of Springfield in 1958 to answer the growing needs of the Church in an expanding northern Decatur community.
Though geographically, culturally and economically diverse, "we bring our different gifts together in unity". As one body we depend upon each other as brothers and sisters, each with different roles and responsibilities. We have but one Head, Christ Jesus.
As a Body, we have a common mission which is to continue the mission of Jesus. This mission is accomplished by:
- Recognizing that we are ine people, with one faith, one Baptism and one Lord. We are dedicated to the continuation of the priesthood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Though in different degrees, the clergy, religious and laity all share in this priesthood.
- Proclaiming the Good News of the Gospel, which tells of the love and simplicity of God's love.
- Recognizing that quality of parish life is of utmost importance. We support a high quality of the spirit of welcome, of liturgical celebration, of catechetical and doctrinal teaching.
- Imitating Christ in serving the needs of His people.
We recognize our role as a Christian community and we strive for understanding and communication in all directions within and beyond the parish.
We rely on God's promise to be with us always and we call upon the Spirit to lead in our journey of faith.
